DS is waiting to start nursery as he needs 1:1 support. A support worker has been found (a friend of mine) who happens to be a qualified primary teacher who is fully CRB checked and could teach a class full of children in the same school BUT we have to wait for a new CRB check to be done as per the government rules.
I'm all for protecting children but this is red tape at it's worst........

s long as she is not alone with him she can work can't she?

MrSpoc · 10/02/2011 14:51

it is madness and does not work. You have to of been caught already to be on the system, by then it is too late.

We can't we just have a cetralised computer system where the neccessery companies, agencies have access to it and do not have to pay for each check.

It seems way OTT. I have been CRB-ed three times in as many months by the SAME local authority for work in different departments. Waste of time.

AnnMarlow · 10/02/2011 15:06

In the past 12 months I have had 3 CRBs for one local authority, 3 for another and one for being a guider. Is a lot of them tbh.

southeastastra · 10/02/2011 15:07

i too have a few, they were going to bring in vetting an barring which would only mean one crb type check but cut it

Ria28 · 10/02/2011 15:14

I have separate CRBs for Rainbows and Brownies, and may need another to join a club for guiders so I could potentially help out at other units. Also 2 others for volunteering in schools. I really think it should be one CRB for everything, and renew it every year or something. The current system is a total waste of time and money.

iamabadger · 10/02/2011 15:20

Same in the NHS, new one for each job, sometimes even if in same Trust! Madness and must cost a bloody fortune!

The system is mad and must cost loads - why not set it up as a central process that you have to renew every year. Then you have one registration that you can show to any employer or whatever.

Hulababy · 10/02/2011 15:26

The whole thing is now over the top and needs sorting out.

CRBs make parents think that everything is okay, no problems and everyone their child comes into contact is perfectly safe. Now, in 99/9% of cases this is the case.

However all a CRB check means is that the person has not been caught of a crime.

It doesn't mean they haven't committed a crime. They could be a serial attacker, just not been found out.

And the CRB is only up to date on the day it is printed. The next day the person could commit a crime and be caught, but the CRB doesn't show this.

MrSpoc · 10/02/2011 15:27

the only reason is money. goverment earns alot this way and an beenm seen as a type of stealth tax

grottielottie · 10/02/2011 15:33

I agree it's a mad system. There seems to be such an onus on CRB that it gives a false sence of security while also perpetuating a culture of suspicion (which leads adults to not want to volunteer with guide ect).
As if doing a CRB check is the be all and end all when in reality having a good childprotection policy and following best practice is what is important and best protects children.

pascoe28 · 10/02/2011 15:37

Lefties and overly-protective hysterical Mums, take note - this is what happens when you get on your high horses and huff and puff about 'something should be done' and seek yet more Government interference in our lives.

SexyDomesticatedDab · 11/02/2011 10:56

From what I heard on the radio the system is getting sorted out by the gov't and merging some of the agencies and not having some volunteers to be CVRB'd - need to find some details about it.
