When DH asks "do you know if we've got any icecream"...

Just had an argument over this. Give DH some apple pie. Get comfy on sofa. He asks if there's any icecream. I get annoyed because I think he really means "can you get me the icecream" - he denies this of course. Why not ask me to get it instead of expecting me to just know when I've not been in the freezer? (otherwise I'd have gotten it)

I'm in a bad mood anyway hence the argument but I get annoyed when he's done it before.

AIBU?!

No. My man does this sort of thing.

Reply: "No idea, why don't you go and have a look?"

FabbyChic · 09/02/2011 20:49

Seeing as I assume you do the cooking, is it not obvious you be the person to ask if there is any ice cream, me thinks you are being UNREASONABLE. He did not ask you to get it he asked if you had any, who was last in the freezer I bet it was YOU>>>>>>

TrailMix · 09/02/2011 20:50

You could just answer the question he asked, ie yes/no/not sure and leave him to sort out the rest himself.

He probably DID have an agenda, but try to rise above it!

HecateQueenOfWitches · 09/02/2011 20:52

Well. Depends. If you buy the food, put it away and generally dish it up, then it would be reasonable to assume that you may know, off the top of your head, if you dished up the last of it or not.

But if that's not the case, then he's being unreasonable to expect you to know.

Instead of saying no, why don't you - if you know that you do have some - say "Yes. There is."

I normally reply

'I dont have an encyclopedic knowledge of the freezer contents'

zandy · 09/02/2011 20:56

Did you give him just plain apple pie, with no custard/cream/ice-cream? I'd have asked too.

WimpleOfTheBallet · 09/02/2011 20:57

Wht Zandy said! Who eats apple pie with nothing on it!

canyou · 09/02/2011 21:00

I would have been asked if there was any there but only because I hide- all the nice treat stuff-- do the menu plan and shopping and apple pie on its own on a plate would be lonely Wink.

Iggly · 09/02/2011 21:03

Actually he does the cooking. I just got the pie because I cleared the plates so was in the kitchen.

I don't care if I have apple pie with cream etc - I actually just prefer the pastry Grin

cyb I did say something along those lines, maybe ruder. Hence the argument...!
