To want DH to not look like a bin man just because he is ill?

bupcakesandcunting · 09/02/2011 18:12

DH is in day 4 of man flu a bug. He's ill, I don't doubt it. He's achey and sneezy and was being sick on sunday so definitely under the weather.

However, when I am sick, I at least manage to drag a comb through my hair, pull on a clean jumper/jeans and look like I live in a house as opposed to a skip. DH has been wandering around in the following fashions;

Monday - bermuda shorts, red v-neck sweather, slippers

Tuesday - linen trousers that are all threadbare on the bum/knees, wifebeater vest, odd socks.

Today - bin man hat, tracksuit top/jeans he gardens in.

I'm not suggesting he wears a dinner suit to be ill around the house in, but he looks like he's been working on the bin truck. I feel a bit better for just cleaning myself up a bit when sick. He is making me feel a bit scuzzy with his hobo fashion show Grin

You really need to go through his wardrobe and raid it!

bupcakesandcunting · 09/02/2011 18:16

I would do this but he has a mental FiloFax of rags clothes that he owns.

When we were moving house, I accidentally on purpose left his manky old dressing gown hanging on the back of the bedroom door. He wanted to go and ask for it back!

If you can't look a bit crappy when you're ill, then when can you?

So long as he is clean and doesn't leave the house I can't see the problem.

GypsyMoth · 09/02/2011 18:17

wtf?? a wifebeater vest???? what IS that?

TheArmadillo · 09/02/2011 18:20

YABU - leave the poor man alone when he is ill

Thingumy · 09/02/2011 18:22

Yabu

My dh dresses like that when he's well.

Shut up moaning woman, you aren't living with a scurry bastard on a daily basis.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 09/02/2011 18:23

Has he shaved/showered at least....?? I would make sure that the washing machine "accidentally" damaged the linen trousers, the wifebeater vest (I can imagine what it looks like) and the bin man hat.

bupcakesandcunting · 09/02/2011 18:24

wife beater vest

Mhy DH does his best to look (and smell) like a homeless person whether ill or well.

The other day I saw a Big Issue seller outside the Co-op and I swear I thought it was DH.

defineme · 09/02/2011 18:31

The binmen that come down our street look a lot better than that from the sound of it!

I think there's never an excuse for a hat indoors.

My dh had something called 'weekend greys'(vile stained various shades of grey joggers and sweatshirts) when we first got together and glasses (wears contacts in day) that had green stuff on the plastic bits that go on the bridge of your nose [sick face].

I mentioned that I never wanted to have sex with him when he was wearing them. He got new glasses and lovely new relax around the house clothes!

bupcakesandcunting · 09/02/2011 18:31

Spidermama Grin

I've gently offered to run him baths/lay him out some clean jammys to get in to but he says he is happy looking like Frank Gallagher on an off day.

:)

YABU, if he's changed outfits every day I'm assuming he's clean.

Also, my bin men look ok :)

Nagoo · 09/02/2011 18:33

at weekend greys.

GentleOtter · 09/02/2011 18:34

bupcakes - are we married to the same man? Grin

Mine was 'encouraged' to spend the night in the spare bedroom last night. The sympathy pot ran dry.

bupcakesandcunting · 09/02/2011 18:35

I should point out that DH, when well, looks lovely and makes an effort.

defineme I bought DH some "relaxing" clothes from H&M, you know the stuff, jersey trousers, t-shirts, jersey cardigans. If he's getting dressed surely it would be as easy to pull on the relaxing clothes as pulling on the homeless clothes?

Footnote: I do not buy DH's clothes. I bought the relaxing clothes on an impulse in the sales as an effort to get him out of the hobo rags when relaxing. Wink

Dh is proud of a fleece that he's owned for 13+

I use the term fleece very lightly,I think it once resembled a fleece...

He has a towelling dressing gown which is even older.

I generally make him walk behind me if we are out in public together.

TotemPole · 09/02/2011 18:38

What's wrong with wearing bermuda shorts?

bupcakesandcunting · 09/02/2011 18:50

Bermuda shorts, fine.

Bermuda shorts with red grandad jumper and slippers, not fine.

OP posts:
Gemsy83 · 09/02/2011 18:54

Leave him alone- with a moaning minnie like you and being unwell bermuda shorts are the least of his worries.

bupcakesandcunting · 09/02/2011 18:56

I haven't actually moaned AT him, ffs...

Last bonfire night we went to a party and I swear I am not saying this for comic effect but the Guy was dressed better than DH.

It was a fairly swanky party. The Guy had on a Firetrap jacket and nice new looking black skinny jeans for his trip to the bonfire. Hmm

Imagine my mortification when DH turned up in bad moon boots, and a jacket held together with a rope belt.

Luckily he's absolutely gorgeous, but still.

bupcakesandcunting · 09/02/2011 19:37

Spidermama, I am crying with laughter here Grin That's brilliant Grin
