The class was OK - the not being able to sit down for the rest of the week was a PITA. Literally.

JimmyChooChoo · 09/02/2011 15:18

Thanks Edit! All I care is not making a numpty of myself and fainting or falling over

YABU. Spinning is great. And it's only as hard as you want it to be. Keep your resistance on low and take it easy the first few times.

Enjoy your class!

IAmTheCookieMonster · 09/02/2011 15:18

Do it Jimmy! It is tough the first time but gets easier. I second the low resistance thingy, that way you might not get the black spots before your eyes like I did Wink

JimmyChooChoo · 09/02/2011 15:45

Thanks Quenelle going to force myself to go!Will remember the low resistence tip Smile

you know what they say....no pain no gain.

good luck! (and well done)

notyummy · 09/02/2011 15:52

I went to the free spinning classes on holiday in Europe, surrounded by male Italian and French men who did proper syscling shit up mountains! I am pretty fit but don't cycle. You will be fine, but it def a 'no pain, no gain' scenario. You are supposed to sweat buckets, get v out of breath and go red. All the stuff about burning 500 calories in 45 minutes is based on a fairly high pain threshold....

Be strong!

booandbump · 09/02/2011 16:12

The first time I went I found it bloody hard. My bum was sore for about 3 days!

I actually grew to love it and ended up going 3 or 4 times a week.

Good luck x

JimmyChooChoo · 09/02/2011 16:16

Thanks kepler,notyummy and booandbump!
You've inspired me to go and not stay in and drinkWinelike I could easily do!

Good luck - you will need it for your first one!! After my first one, I got off the bike and promptly fell over - my legs just buckled under me just like in Bridget Jones!! Fairly mortifying but it only happened once. Had a real sense of achievement after subsequent classes though ad I am sure it is excellent for fitness levels.

emsyj · 09/02/2011 16:46

The instructor at the class I (used to) go to warns new spinners that their legs might give way when they get off the bike! I've not been for ages as it clashed with DD's cluster feeding in the evening, but we're past that stage now so I want to go back. I actually bumped into the instructor at the leisure centre this morning as I came out of aqua tots and I think the combination of that and your thread on here must be a sign that it's time to get back to it!

5Foot5 · 09/02/2011 19:14

Oh this isn't at all what I expected. I was once bought a spinning kit but it consisted of a wooden rod with a funny circular thing at the botton and a great lump of dirty wool. There were instructions but I gave up before I had got it all spun.

Maybe I should have stuck wit it 'cos our late guinea pig was very, very, very hairy and we used to get great clumps off of her and if only I had spun them when I had the chance I might now be able to make DD some little garment to remember her by.

Ohjustshootmenow · 09/02/2011 19:16

I love spinning - but then i LOVE cycling so spinning is easy lol

Best of luck and prepare for the burn!

tl10 · 09/02/2011 20:26

I went to one two weeks after giving birth-I didn't like the seats much (but then I never did) but I was ok! lol. Yup it was prob nuts but I'd had 4 months at the end of pregnancy where I couldn't run or work out like mad and I really missed it- it just felt good to be able to (same thing as eating smelly cheese, booze, pate and lying on my front in the weeks after the birth!)

JimmyChooChoo · 10/02/2011 09:57

Wow!I went!And it KILLED meGrin
Thankyou everyone for the advice!

Well done for going! I hate spinning but force myself to go. Went Tues eve and am booked to go sat am. Usually meet my friend on a sat there but she's not around so will take willpower to go. But need to shift some weight and I don't think WW is enough. Are you going to go again?

JimmyChooChoo · 10/02/2011 15:53

Thanks Willawallaby!I felt like I was dying!
Like you I'm going to force myself to go!There's one friday eve and Saturday too!
My friend was going to join the same gym but hasn't got round to it so I'm going to have to find that willpower of mine to force myself to go!
Shame we don't go to the same oneGrin
Thanks for the reply x
