DS1 is going on an engineering course for 5 days over the Easter hols. Recommended on here. It's in Shropshire so quite a hike and it cost us £145. But DS very keen and it might help him decide if this is what he wants to do in the future.

In order to get a place we had to send the form into school to get a teacher to sign part of it. I sent in all the accompanying literature for info.

Last night DS came home and tells me he's been invited on an engineering course Hmm. I look into to it and it seems it's a course arranged by the school from the same people we've booked with. But it's in Exeter - about an hour from us and heavily subsidised.

AIBU in thinking they could have told us about this, or at least that they were considering doing it. before our form was sent back?

That is extremely crap, did they steal your idea/info ?

Ormirian · 09/02/2011 12:25

Yes. Or at least I think so. They've never organised a course with this organisation before. I don't care about that, just wish they'd told me!

may be you gave them the idea? they thought wow what a great idea wish we thought of that.

How long ago did you book this and when did school decide to do it?

If you booked months in advance then YABU.

FerociousBeast · 09/02/2011 12:26

If they are on at different times would it be worth doing both ? Is it a SWGATE course ?

Ormirian · 09/02/2011 12:27

Smallpeice Trust, beast.

I booked before christmas but they must have started to arrange it fairly soon after that to be have application forms ready now

Same time. Or more or less - DS doesn't want to spend all his hols on a course Grin

I think you should be proud of yourself for giving them an obviously good idea.

Do not let yourself get upset. just think of all the other kids you are now helping.

FerociousBeast · 09/02/2011 12:29

Yes, they really should have said something. I would talk to them about it.

FerociousBeast · 09/02/2011 12:32

BTW for the future there might be some stuff for him on the SWGATE website at Exeter Uni it is worth ringing for places from time to time.

Ormirian · 09/02/2011 12:32

Thanks ferocious. Will have a look.

Could you have a word with organiser and is it possible to have the subsidy that your ds would have received with the school one transferred to your one seeing as it was your idea?

Also if it is the same org can you ring them and explain, they might be nice? Or could they offset the cost of your course against the schools total cost; your ds could then attend the school one and recieve the subsidy or you could come to an individual arrangement with the school?
