YANBU I had to wait until friday to watch tuesday's Hollyoaks last week! Unacceptable.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 08/02/2011 11:32

I'm pissed off because their roadband is always down. They don't have enough switches for all the households in their little box at the end of our road. So they unplug someone randomly (us). We ring up and compain, they send a bloke out and he'll unplug someone else and plug us back in. Very well run operation.

I've found that quite a few shows from the night before aren't available on Virgin catch up for a couple of days. 'Tis indeed annoying. Why should I watch it online on a smaller screen when I'm paying them £57 a month for their services?

I do try to remember to series record but catch up should be available.

Is Sky any better...?

wigglesrock · 08/02/2011 12:13

I have a funny feeling they can't put it on "catch-up" if the channel originally showing the programme does a later repeat themselves.

yellowtomato · 08/02/2011 12:13

sky is much better.......i hate virgin so much......i could rant on here for hours about all the problems I used to have with their 'service' I used to have tv, broadband, telephone, the whole lot and it was really driving me mad...the tv kept freezing and the customer service was non existent.....

Anyway, with Sky now and I looooooove them. Everything is better.....wish I'd changed ages ago...and the changeover went smoothly too.

nomoreheels · 08/02/2011 12:21

Thanks yellowtomato, that's good to know. I'll look into Sky, as we're out of contract now so we can switch anytime.

Never had an issue with Virgin broadband or the phone, but I don't use my landline apart from having a place where my family (abroad) can phone me. The TV however gave us quite a lot of grief for a good few months. We had major issues with picture quality and had to have numerous engineer visits. It still glitches from time to time and I have to tweak the connections.

And when I tried to downgrade our XL tv package, I was told not to bother as they'd start charging us a rental for the V+ box which would eat up any monthly savings made by downgrading. This is the same box we had paid £100 for when we joined up, and had been under the impression it was a one off cost. Nice.

Am considering just getting phone/broadband and buying a digital recorder instead, since we have a nice new telly with built in freeview and I've realised I really don't watch much that isn't on the standard BBC channels/C4 etc anyhow.

NadiaWadia · 08/02/2011 12:57

Have just had Sky+ installed and I love my new toy! So easy to use.

Sky Anytime is very disappointing, though. (stuff that they select that just gets loaded onto the box overnight.) The box is HD (I think that's standard now?) but we don't have an HD subscription as we're not about to go out and buy an HD TV when our old one is fine. And yet about 90% of the stuff sky sends us is in HD format. Therefore we can't watch it.

Also we only have the variety pack, not movies and you've guessed it, we receive movies as well which we can't watch. If you select them it tells you to upgrade your subscription!

So 90% of the stuff on Anytime is unwatchable - and apparently this can't be changed. Ridiculous.

BuzzLiteBeer · 08/02/2011 13:01

You shouldn't have the Hd box at all, there is a regular sky+ box available.

NadiaWadia · 08/02/2011 13:14

Really? Well they offered it to me for free to stop us cancelling, just thought it was their standard box now and we might get an HD tv some time in the future. Maybe that was a mistake ...

BuzzLiteBeer · 08/02/2011 13:18

I got a new regular box recently, the white one, not the black one. The HD one if you don't have to right tv is a waste of money, as you get less than you would with a regualr one. Ring them back.

NadiaWadia · 08/02/2011 13:19

OK thanks maybe I will.

houseworkwhore · 08/02/2011 19:07

hmm think i may ring sky then see what i can get for our pennies, may even play them off against each other,

virgin have a habit of cutting us off lately even when the direct debit has gone out...

agree the customer service is shite too
