the fact that I am getting my contraceptive implant removed on Thursday and the Dr has never removed or implanted one before!

I asked about it being removed and the receptionist said she had never heard of it, but she would go and ask. The Doctor came out and said she had heard of them but never had any dealings with them. She said she would read up on it before my appointment.

Bugger.

If I was you I'd go to a sexual health clinic then although I'm sure the GP would be fine

aPixie · 08/02/2011 09:57

Oh god no. Find someone who can do it and has done it before. When I had my last one out, it was an experienced doctor and she still had to pull and tug really quite hard. Ouch.

I've just had another one in and I made sure it was an experienced doctor again.

BuntyPenfold · 08/02/2011 10:03

Don't let them practice on you; I had an inexperienced GP try to insert a coil for me.

I won't describe my feelings.

Book into the Family Planning clinic, they are the experienced ones.

I'm on my third implant now, the first one was put in and taken out by a first timer when they were relatively new

I wouldn't worry too much :D as long as they have local antithetic you'll be just fine

Rillyrillygoodlooking · 08/02/2011 10:21

Family planning was a brilliant idea but it will cost NZ$92 (about £45) to get it removed.

The GP will cost NZ$40 (about £20).

Bugger.

So, I went with the Dr who had never done it before, for £20.

It was fine! She had her book next to her, and didn't have to rootle around for too long.

I thought they had to have been on a training sessions for it Shock
At my surgery they said that on 'Doctor X' was qualified to do it! So why are others just doing it after having a 'a read' ?

justcarrots29 · 10/02/2011 06:24

Oh I see you live somewhere else...Glad it went well!

Rillyrillygoodlooking · 11/02/2011 09:04

Thank you! The Doctor was the height of calm thank goodness.
