If you suspect a troll, REPORT THE POST. Do not risk upsetting someone in need with your snide comments and Hmm emoticons. Angry

yes troll hunters love the chase, search posts, are you newbie, ohh err dontr get strangers round these parts

and for some of thenm squawcking troll is shorthand for dont disagree with them

all the energy expended gossiping and harrumphing about would be trolls is unnecessary.but i think troll hunters love the missy marple chase and potential catch

GMajor7 · 08/02/2011 09:26

TROLL!!!!!

scottishmummy · 08/02/2011 09:27

not very droll.try harder

KaraStarbuckThrace · 08/02/2011 09:35

Gandalf I agree completely. It serves no purpose when you start posting on a thread going Hmm 'I don't believe this'2, because it will be very hurtful to the OP if it is genuine.
Report your suspicions to MN and hide the thread.

Mumcentreplus · 08/02/2011 09:41

I post Hmm when I think someone is talking bull-shit nothing to do with trolls

report troll suspicious to mnhq.dont enact witchhunt and speculation across mn.and sometimes i suspect people say troll too frequently or to settle scores

naturally i have been called a troll

and tbh think that was code for dont disagree with me lest i call ye troll

melikalikimaka · 08/02/2011 10:11

MNHQ making up some posts so that we can talk about issues they are researching? That why they don't want troll hunting?

lottiejenkins · 08/02/2011 10:16

Is this to do with the thread with the lady who's husband has said he wants to commit suicide?? If it is then i agree that the trollhunters on there did themselves no favours!

scottishmummy · 08/02/2011 10:20

melika, thats conspiracy theory gone daft.why would mnhq post troll posts?what research?MNHQ can just ask for pov on any opinion, they dont need to go to trouble of fake posts to generate interest

propercrimbo · 08/02/2011 10:21

It usually happens when people deem the OP's problem to be so ridiculous it can't possibly be true, but lets face it no one posts with trivial problems, we can sort those without the wisdom of MN!
I agree totally, they just love the arguments and also I think there is an element of if it does turn out to be trollery, the wise old troll hunters can say, see I didn't believe them anyway, whilst we all bow down to their superior wisdom and hand them an OBE! Grin

MmeLindt · 08/02/2011 10:21

YANBU

Report and ignore if you suspect a troll.

scurryfunge · 08/02/2011 10:22

I have just been told on another thread that troll hunting is ok if the poster is actually a troll Grin

scottishmummy · 08/02/2011 10:24

some folk love a troll hunt.searching archives, cross reference posts, you said dis and dat in 19Canteen...yet now you change your mind.aha and some trip trap cliches

Mumcentreplus · 08/02/2011 10:24

Troll-hunting is boring as hell too...

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 08/02/2011 10:24

Pitchforks at dawn anyone.. Hmm

How hard is it to follow an intruction of report and/or ignore?

GrimmaTheNome · 08/02/2011 10:27

Doesn't everyone have this link at the top of their page?

Report the post if you suspect a troll - and by extension, report if you suspect hunting.

QuickLookBusy · 08/02/2011 10:40

Agree, the troll shouters last night were disgusting. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Instead of shouting "troll"either 1-Report or 2- just go and do something else and keep your fingers off the keyboard.

GandalfyCarawak · 08/02/2011 10:56

The thing that really winds me up is the way that when they occasionally get proved right, they gloat. It doesn't make it right! For every one they get one right they get a whole lot wrong!

OP posts:
LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 08/02/2011 10:58

GandalfyCarawak... It's disgusting. :( They should be chucked off the site permanently.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 08/02/2011 12:39

I agree Quick. It's ugly.

YANBU op.

bluenordic · 08/02/2011 13:02

Personnaly, I think it's great fun and should be encouraged.

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 08/02/2011 13:35

I post Hmm when the OP is being ridiculous. That doesnt mean I think they are trolling, I post ridiculous things sometimes.
Okay, a lot of the time!

QuestionNumber · 08/02/2011 13:36

YABU. There are a lot of timewasters that no-one dares suggest are trolls because of the "no troll hunting" rule.

JimmyChooChoo · 08/02/2011 13:41

Is a troll someone who is obviously making something up to cause an argument?
Sorry if that sounds like a daft question.
Also sometimes somebody will post something that sounds a little 'bizarre' and not real and lots of people start accusing them of making their story up and being a 'troll' but how can you know for sure?
