to not send my dd to school today?

my 7yo has been unwell since thursday with a throat infection. She was sick on friday and has had a fluctuating high temperature. She's barely eating anything at all since thursday. She seemed to be improving yesterday but has been hot through the night and coughing lots this morning. My instincts tell me i should keep her home but i'm concerned about the length of this abscence.

If she is sick, she's sick. She certainly doesn't sound well enough for school to me.

PurplePillow · 08/02/2011 09:03

I would keep her off tbh, better to be off longer and make sure she is better than send her back too soon, also saves spreading it further through school.

I'm keeping my 3 yo off for same reasons Grin

Go with your instincts. At 7 missing a few days, or a couple of weeks even, will do her no harm. If she feels better later maybe play a couple of learning gaames with her. Have you been to the docs, she maybe needs medication to move it along. Lots of cuddles and lots of fluids will do more good than sums or reading!

I'm at home with a poorly child too (hence huge amount of MNetting!)

It started on Saturday, but everything seems much better today, so have hopes of school return tomorrow.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/02/2011 09:08

keep her at home and don't worry about the absence, its just how it goes sometimes. I'm keeping dd off just cos she coughed all night and got practically no sleep. Shes not unwell otherwise just a stupid cough and snotty nose.

hope your dd feels better soon.

onimolap · 08/02/2011 14:52

How are you all getting on? DC is nearly better (symptom free, just looks a bit tired) and will almost certainly be back as school tomorrow.

I think I've got it now......

Underachieving · 08/02/2011 15:04

You know your own child, if she's ill she's ill. It's your child today, it'll be someone elses next month so don't beat yourself up about it, it happens to all of us.

There is always phoning and asking the school if you want some reassurance because I am sure they would say keep her home.

Actually calling the school is a good idea she's off tomorrow too so that you can read some of her school reading books together or do a little of her maths book (if they use maths books). Only a little though, a poorly little girl doesn't want to do a full 6 hour day, even from the comfort of her own duvet.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/02/2011 16:10

glad to hear there is hope onimolap!
Pretty sure I have it too. Sore throat and feel 'funny round the edges'.

onimolap · 08/02/2011 17:05

Yes, OYBBK, the young clean-living ones always bounce back faster!

I'm feeling randomly tired, light-headed, queasy, glands up, and something that isn't quite a sore throat but doesn't feel right.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/02/2011 17:51

woe is us!

ghosteditor · 08/02/2011 17:55

poor little one! there seems to be a lot going around at the moment - I've been properly ill for a full week now, though I have worked from home some of the time (in between bouts of fever) to reduce email horror.

It's best not to go back until you're well on the mend or you risk relapsing, and anyway you don't want to reintroduce the bug to the class if others have escaped being ill. Hope she picks up soon!

onimolap · 09/02/2011 11:28

Bugger!

I thought he was OK, and he went to school. Just had the call to go and pick him up!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/02/2011 07:16

Thats a bummer!
Am contemplating sending dd back. Not sure she was awake a bit after 5 coughing for a while then went back to sleep. Think I'll let her sleep in and see what happens.
So how is everyone doing? dh is coughing a bit. I am coughing quite a lot, feeling rubbish and oh so very very very tired.

onimolap · 10/02/2011 08:54

I've dropped mine off - DS has perked up a lot; DD complaining because she's not had it.

I'm making sure I'm always near the mobile just in case....

I've not got it too badly: just very tired and mildly queasy.

Hope everyone is on the mend.
