being picky about food

Is this unreasonable pickiness?

I picked up the pack of wild Alaskan salmon fillets from the freezer today, planning to cook a couple for supper brushed with olive oil and cajun spice mix. We usually do this with fresh salmon fillets but had these in the freezer so I wanted to use them. They had one of those marine stewardship logos on so I thought fine, no problem.

Then I read on the back of the packet: caught in the pacific, produced and packed in China. Suddenly, I'm thinking "meh, maybe not". Not sure if it's the fact that it's been produced in a country notorious for low standards in mass-produced goods or that the meal about to be on my plate is much better travelled than I am. I just felt ick, and had something else instead. DH was fine with the salmon.

Is this weird, unreasonable, over-fussy? Am I overthinking this?

YABU - eat it, it's fine. It's worse to buy it and not eat it. Then the fish died in vain.

toeragsnotriches · 06/02/2011 20:44

YABU. To waste it is much worse.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 06/02/2011 20:45

yeah, it's a bit weird.

How did they end up in your freezer in the first place?

BringOnTheGoat · 06/02/2011 20:46

YABU and to answer your question - YES - it's weird, unreasonable and over-fussy, you are DEF overthinking.

'I felt ick'? Really Hmm

fluffles · 06/02/2011 20:47

it's very weird to have those thoughts when cooking rather than when you first bought them... or if your DH buys the food then you should have agreed standards.

not much point in buying stuff you consider unethical then not eating it

TattyDevine · 06/02/2011 20:47

Why did you buy it then? You are being precious.

5DollarShake · 06/02/2011 20:47

Terrible waste - better to have made the stand before purchasing...

bettybosseye · 06/02/2011 20:48

YABU, what Hecate said. You must of bought them? Much worse to waste them.

skiphopskidaddle · 06/02/2011 22:50

I think DH bought them. Or I did without reading the "produced in China" smallprint. They won't go to waste as DH doesn't mind them.
