To think that if you are going to join a thread simply to flame the OP then at least read the posts made by them!

just seen a thread where the Op has repeated many tiimes that she was posting something said about her by someone else.

yet people are continuing to post flaming her because they cannot be bothered to actually read anything beyond the OP.

it is lazy.

And you make yourself look like a twat

If you are on Mumsnet New you can even have the Op's posts highlighted in a lovely green colour, so you can skim through a long thread and read just what the OP has said.

I done that on the mental health thread initially.

So from now on I shall be reading all the OP's posts at least you can elect to have them in a seperate colour so you can just read those!

Learnt my lesson, but was guilty to start with.

I think in the beginning people were right to flame. but once she repeated many times that it was not her saying it. when there were a great many other posters trying to say in bold that the Op was the one being spoken about...still people just piled on.

it is so frustrating

It is most annoying when they post something all outraged, that is meaningless because the thread has really moved on, or the op has already addressed the point they make etc

then they post AGAIN to say that they've read the thread now and think...

Well, call me stupid, but if you were going to read the bloody thread, would it not have made sense to do so before posting the first time? Then you wouldn't look like a twat.

well yes but if you deliberately start a thread to draw people in like that, then of course people will pile in furiously with their gut reaction.

She could have made the same point in a less inflammatory way.

If you don't want to be misunderstood and accidentally flamed, then don't start a thread that deliberately sets out to mislead in order to provoke a reaction.

I've just had someone flame me on a thread of mine when they obviously hadn't bothered to read the thread past the first page - especially amusing since I had just posted that the issue had been resolved.

Youngvisitor - As i say, the initial flaming was deserved. But come on, if a thread is already a few pages in then at least do a brief skim before bashing away at the keys in fury.

I didn't read the entire thread but just the quickest of glances shows you that OP had done a reverse situation post.

Trills - its the one about lcking up the mentally ill in asylums.

so am innocent, but people don't always have hours to go though a thread so doing AIBU is a bit silly

well yes but Penelope the kind of people most likely to post in response to that thread title are also likely to be too offended and upset to sit back and think "hmm.... now let me see... is this a real OP? Should I read further and post a considered response to the whole thing? Or should I tell the OP how that statement makes me feel?"

Obviously I feel v sorry for the OP wrt to her real life situation - but I don't think you can get all surprised when an extremely offensive OP provokes extreme offence.

Anyway - if anything she should be heartened that people are finding her post offensive - wasn't that the point of the thread, to see if people did find the statement offensive? Confused

theyoungvisiter again i think you are right, her op provoked outrage, but odley that is saying that attitude is wrong, so it isn't attacking the op, but people with attitudes like that,
