They have been told again and again (X1000000) to keep their fucking lips closed when eating but they persist in it Hmm.

I have no rational idea of why, but I have an absolute hatred of hearing lips smacking and slobbering. When they were babies it was cute but now it makes me feel murderous Grin.

Dh keeps telling me IABU and to leave off as I am going to give them a complex. I can remember hating being told off about how I was eating when I was a kid but I can't stop myself ranting trying to teach them to eat properly.

Well am I?

Calm yourself!

I don't know how old your dcs are but picture the scene at my breakfast table with 2 teens who cannot eat cereal without sucking it in instead of eating of a spoon like human beings.

Resist the temptation to murder.

Annoying as the slurping may be, it is not a defence that will stand up in court.

chickencrisps · 04/02/2011 19:21

scarey :(

5Foot5 · 04/02/2011 19:22

How old are they?

I think YANBU because this is one of my pet hates, that and people drinking noisily.

But if they are very young you might have to keep being a bit patient.

I can think of at least three adults I have worked with who had clearly never been told or taught to eat with their mouth shut because they would eat noisily and messily always. I had to sit opposite one of them at work and it was just revolting when he had his sandwiches at lunchg time.

I hate it!!

Lip smacking Angry

Slurping Angry

Mouth hanging wide open while eating Angry

People who stick their tongue out before raising their fork to their mouths Angry

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Lol

cybbo · 04/02/2011 19:26

I have to do it EVERY meal time too

smoggii · 04/02/2011 19:31

I got in the lift with the City I live in's Council leader (large city so lots of responsibility) and he was chomping away at whatever he was eating...with his mouth open, it took all my composure not to punch him in the face. The man is in charge of millions but eats like a slob.

I can understand your frustration.

LadyOfTheManor · 04/02/2011 19:33

Wow I'm glad I'm not your child!

cumfy · 04/02/2011 19:47

Have they changed recently ?

14 yo must know the deal ... surely ?

My DM wouldn't allow a single sound ... but I was thoroughly conditioned by 6 or 7.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 04/02/2011 20:05

With you there, OP. I hate lip-smacking, slurping and gulping too. My husband does it and I have to think of Alan Rickman to keep my composure. Shock

5Foot5 · 04/02/2011 20:12

I hate people eating gum too but I think I probably am a bit irrational about that one so I never say enything even though DH does it quite often.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 04/02/2011 20:14

I also detest it when my beloved hubby takes a giant swig of tea and then swishes it through his teeth like mouthwash... gross! Hmm
