Rights for children

AIBU The law has correctly applied the right for same-sex couples to stay in any hotel they want to. But, how many hotels & holiday companies have an adults only policy, (but you can take your dog). Now there are plans for child-free aeroplanes as well. Isn't it time our children were included in anti-discrimination legislation too?

Can someone please point me in the direction of a "gay only" hotel, I shall make a booking turn up with my opposite sex partner and then sue them for shed loads when they turn us away Grin

"Sigh" I didn't say the judge was wrong. I already said that I was mixing the Cornish hotel up with the B&B in Cookham, can't you read, Buzz?

All I know is that the Cornish lot were found guilty of discrimination but the judge concerned has given them the right of appeal and their disclaimer is still up on their website so it's not quite fully cut and dried yet, obviously. They are the ones that describe themselves as a "hotel"

The B&B in Cookham, which is the one I was thinking of, and is much smaller with only three letting bedrooms, had a big "hooha" in the papers last April when they turned away one couple, but they've somehow have managed to do the same thing to another gay couple last week, which, if everything is as clear cut as you seem to think it is, seems pretty damn strange to me. Confused

Anyway this is tedious in the extreme, quite frankly I find this level of discourse quite puerile. I have no personal axe to grind either way. I've no time for people who go to the courts/papers, stamping their little feet as though they've been totally disenfranchised just because they've been denied what they want, where they want, when they want. Likewise, if crazy bible bashers want to make a rod for their own silly backs by "taking a stand for God" instead of simply saying, "Oh, so sorry there's been a terrible mistake and we've double booked the room, we have to go on a first come, first served basis and the other people booked first", then more fool them and they'll get the trouble they deserve. (People get chucked out of Travelodges and off planes every day on the same excuse so let anyone try and fight that.)

As far as I'm concerned both parties are as barking and trouble stirring as the other, I'm certainly not going to discriminate between them. Let 'em all get on with it! Grin

RunawayFishWife, there's a link to a London one which advertises itself as having "Exclusively Gay Clientele" in one of my earlier posts, or you could visit the gay capitol of the UK and try any of the one's that advertise themselves as such on here I suppose. I'm outta here now, more important and stimulating things to do. Grin

I can't believe what I'm reading in the 21st century. Discriminate for age, sexuality, race, creed - is this a 19th Century appreciation society or what? Oh, and Buzz, DO read my other comments further on from my OP, I think I answered your cert 18 films bit then ;-)

I would pay a supplement on a flight if it was child-free. Seriously. Try spending 3 hours being booted in the back at the end of a 32 hour journey, with the mother doing nothing to help even when asked politely. A money maker for the airlines maybe? Grin
There are times when adults want to be around adults, surely it's not hard to understand that? Children are hardly being deprived by not having access to some areas of life.

Millenniumbug · 03/02/2011 19:47

Tethersend, you prove my point beautifully. If you went online or publically referred to any other group of people in such a way, because of age or any other general reason, you would possibly be prosecuted. I think the way some people refer to children & discriminate against them is disgraceful. What ADULT would want to call CHILDREN little sh*? I think you need to examine the way you treat those you consider more vulnerable than yourself. I would definately keep any child well away from anyone with such a disturbing attitude. SHAME!

I didn't mention anything about cert 18 films.

Morloth · 03/02/2011 23:45

My last flight involved a 30 hour slog with a 7 month old who didn't sleep at all for that time, no a fucking wink. He just cried and cried and cried.

Personally, I think you should be able to check them in like pets. Perhaps a 'creche' at the back of the plane or something?

With rights come responsibilities...

Lamorna · 04/02/2011 10:59

No one minds children on a long flight if the parent has taken responsibility for them, sometimes you think it would be more restful if you could say to the parent go away and leave them with me! It is very stressful having the parent there who is taking no responsibility.
