to want Britax to release this car seat in the UK!

It has a 5-point harness and is suitable up to 85lbs. It only seems to be available in the US at the moment though. See it here

DS1 still fits in his stage 2 seat (priorifix) for now but I would rather he could stay in the 5 point harness for as long as possible because it is much safer than the seatbelt with booster seat option. Why are we always so behind things in the UK? :(

crap isn't it?

how old is he?

you can purchase the britax 2 way elite from the in car safety centre in Milton Keynes... that is harnessed until 25kg (which is about 55lb)

Thanks tiy! I'll check it out. Still wish that one was available here though! He's 4 - but a small 4 :)

what's wrong with this one?

bubbleymummy · 02/02/2011 20:28

I just had a look - it doesn't have isofix connection points does it?

LF - it's only suitable up to 18kg with the harness (same as the priorifix). Then you use the seatbelt with it.

Harness on that one LF only goes to 18kg

oldraver · 02/02/2011 20:34

The one advantage of DS being 5 and only just 15kg is that he is still in his 5 point harness and I would of like to get a rear facing but were not available whenI bought his Tobi

thisisyesterday · 02/02/2011 20:48

bubbley, no, it isn't isofix

NacMacFeegle · 02/02/2011 21:05

DS2 has just turned two and is nearly out of his group one seat, height wise (top of head higher than seat back.) I am considering getting one from the specialist place, because I don't want him out of a harness at his age just because he is huge. No idea what he weighs though, probably about 15kg.

Foreverondiet · 02/02/2011 21:06

Why not contact recaro since they do car seats with 5 point harness: www.recaro-seats.co.uk/child-seats/young-sport.php

it just says "5 point harness recommended up to 18kg" which is different to saying its not suitable after that age.

Probably worth calling to find out max age on 5 point harness.

CarGirl · 02/02/2011 21:07

It is safer to have them in a seat with impact cushion than it is to have them forward facing in a harness - it's do with the weight of head to neck strength ratio in a collision.......

You can use the impact cushions until they are 18kg I believe.

We have a Britax First class plus for our 17 mo. She'll be fine in it until 4 or 5 probably but I can see that if you have a sturdy little chap it may not quite be wide enough. DD is like a piece (highly mobile) string. It has a 5 point harness though, may be worth trying out in a shop. Also reclines which I find really quite handy at the toddler stage.

AlaskaHQ · 02/02/2011 21:53

It is a fab car seat - we looked at getting this when we lived in the USA a year ago, although ended up buying the very similar, but competing, model from Graco. The Graco one seemed to fit my son slightly better, but otherwise we would have gone for this Britax one.

I am a massive advocate of 5 point harnesses for as long as possible.

I am not 100% sure about the Britax Frontier, but the Graco one we got does fit in our UK Isofix stuff - it is called something different I think in the USA, but basically seems identical.

I had this car seat for dd2,I just replaced it 3 months ago and shes 6 (she was 5 then).I only replaced it because I got a smaller car and found getting her in and out of it a bit tough in the smaller car.Id had it since she was 10 months ( I think it was this car seat, was good up to 85Lbs with 5 point harness,it could be used at an infant rear facing seat also)

bubbleymummy · 02/02/2011 23:14

Really Alaska? Can you remember the name of it? We have some relatives in the US so we may be able to arrange for them to ship it over if we knew it would fit our isofix :) I may try googling some more tomorrow.

I'm glad some people agree with me! I was waiting to hear cries of "pfb!" :)

I LOVED my Britaxes. We don't have a car here, so we didn't bring them but we had two cars in the states and had two of them in each car. My favorite thing about them is that the kids couldn't get out of them. My best friend's DD kept undoing her restraint and would then undo her brother's seat as well, so when we sold my DH's truck I gave her the seats that were in there and put them in her truck for her. She hasn't had a problem since.
