To hate answering the phone?

I find it all an inconvenience, just interrupts my fb'ing or mn'ing housework and its usually something very boring if I do answer it.

AIBU? Does the phone or something else piss you off?

Our phone only rings when I'm at the other end of the house! I only run to answer it if the kids are out.

Caller display is a god send although one Indian call centre came up as a local number, so I answered Angry, but I don't feel rude interupting their sales patter.

feelingsorryformyself · 01/02/2011 09:29

I feel the same about the phone. I have to be in the mood and if I am not, I just leave it to go onto answer phone. Before I had kids I used to spend hours on the phone, now I feel it's a major inconvenience, I simply don't have time!
I'll tell you what else REALLY pissed me off - people who stand at pedestrian crossings waiting for the green man when they haven't even pressed the button!!
AND people who serve you in shops who keep taking to their colleague while serving me.

feelingsorryformyself · 01/02/2011 09:30

"pisses" I should have said - this is an ongoing piss me off!!

Ooopsadaisy · 01/02/2011 09:32

My mobile is always in my pocket but I never answer the home phone. It bugs me.

If someone wants me or the dcs they'll text first.

Anyone who really knows me knows how to contact me and I never give my home number.

Don't know why we've got it really.

rebl · 01/02/2011 09:33

I ignore the phone a lot of the time, especially if the dc are home from school. Why do I want to spend time on the phone in the couple of hours between getting home and them going to bed? I'd rather spend the time with them.

I also get annoyed by people who serve you in shops but keep talking to their colleague while serving. I think its rude.

The thing I hate the most is people just popping in for a chat. They seem to always come when I'm rushed off my feet and I'm too polite to chuck them out or tell them its not convenient right now.

Yanbu

DooinMeCleanin · 01/02/2011 09:35

I don't mind answering my mobile if I know who is calling and want to speak to them (which means I often don't answer as it's normally DH whining about something/telling me how ill he is and how he fears he will die soon/asking what's for dinner) I never answer the house phone. I'd have to get up from mumsnet important PC things and walk all the way the through the hall and across the living room and I'm far too busy for that Grin

pagwatch · 01/02/2011 09:37

I rarely answer the house phone unless I am near it. I just call people back when I pick the message up.
But it doesn't bother me when it rings

YANBU. And ours is so bloody loud, too, and we don't have an answer phone so it will keep ringing until the caller gives up or I answer it. The door buzzer is the worst though, it makes a horrible noise and is about 50 times louder than it needs to be, and nobody ever seems to think that one quick buzz is enough and either hold it down for ages or buzz it about 10 times. GRRR.

I am so glad I'm not alone!!

I don't mind the phone ringing, in face I quite like it when they person says "Swearty, its only me. Pick up the phone. Sweary are you there? Oh I'll try your mobile".....Grin

I really dislike shop assistants that continue their chat too. So rude and no need. I often interrupt their little chat by butting in [devil]
