In thinking the majority of people don't do their tax reurns till January?

Or is it just me and everyone I know who turns procrastination into an artform?

ie:

jan 4th- 5 mins spent looking for HMRC login, followed by a spate of baking for the freezer. Very wise to stock up on scones for the year ahead obviously

jan 7th

A twenty minute flourish in my invoices folder followed by two hour mumsnet session

jan 9th

an explicable and powerful urge to urgently reorganise the bathroom storage and defrost the freezer overtakes me.

Jan 12th

A breif but intense session of writing dates on envelopes and stapling reciepts together neccessitates a complete dipilitation, eyebrow tidy and pedicure.

Etc!

Is it just me? Bet you freaks all do it by the first week in April and pay the bill immediately from your tax savings accounts? Gits.

Etc

My husband takes his books into the accountants during the first half of April. Job done!

icapturethecastle · 31/01/2011 23:10

I think you may be right. My DH has only just done his. However, if it was me I probably would have had mine in the first week of April!

HighHeidYin · 31/01/2011 23:11

Haha like it! Wow you started early! Dh began his about a week ago Hmm

Only checked yesterday that he actually had his login details.

That's it done for another year though.

PinkCanary · 31/01/2011 23:12

nope. not just you. I've turned leaving it to the last minute into an art form.

Last year I made my submission at 11.52pm. This year i'm cutting it even finer as im locked out of HMRC's system till 11.40. I think I must get some weird thrill by doing it this way.

Mapley · 31/01/2011 23:12

I think I may want to slap you both with a large dead haddock ;-)

Every year I swear blind it will be done in April.

Every year I'm sat cursing the computer and wading through receipts in mid-Jan.

YANBU.

NicolaMarlow · 31/01/2011 23:16

I only do mine early as I end up getting tax back, so have rather more incentive to do it Grin

Mapley · 31/01/2011 23:18

Shaki and castle that is!

Pink canary and high heid yin I salute you!

I actually felt very organised this year and managed to get mine in on Saturday! I'm usually an 11.56 praying it submits on time kinda girl.

I even remember watching that episode of black books when Dylan moran gets himself beaten up to try and gt out of it one year and thinking that as a solution it had it's merits and was worth consideration!

Very true.

My dad the accountant told me he still had clients procrastinating about it today!

edam · 31/01/2011 23:20

Submitted mine at 2.03pm today. Which for me is on time - v. reassuring to hear there are people who do it even later, thank you!

(One year dh had to do one even though he was on PAYE and had no other income. He left it too late, racked up a fine, then the jammy beggar managed to talk his way out of it. I was quite pissed off ? if I tried it I'm sure I'd come a cropper.)

My partner's dad is an accountant and he very often does his in february and pays the fine, just because he has no respect for HMRC and enjoys not following their rules.

Hahaha jajas! Stop kidding yourself love, you're on mumsnet! Top procrastinating at 1125pm on 31/1! :-)

IWantAnotherBaby · 31/01/2011 23:53

Yup, just done mine... ALWAYS on the last day no matter how good my intentions.

clams · 01/02/2011 00:00

Just finished! All fine apart from a 1 min shouty moment about a missing p60. Means the sight of moira Stewart won't make me sick for oooh 6 months...

Bobbiesmum · 01/02/2011 00:01

My husband gets the fine every year and often doesn't even make the 2nd July deadline.
I have given up now nagging him.

LaWeaselMys · 01/02/2011 00:02

time's up.

Very impressed clams and all last minuters!

PinkCanary · 01/02/2011 00:06

Whoop!!! Submitted, and paid at 11.58... :o

annapolly · 01/02/2011 00:22

Just about to go to bed, when I saw your post. I haven't seen any reminders on tv this year.

Finished and submitted in 40 mins, so why have I been putting it off for so long.

Thanks for the reminder, I was 15 minutes late, hopefully I will get away with that.

BaggedandTagged · 01/02/2011 00:27

if they owe me money I do it 6 April.

If I owe them money I do it 31 Jan
