I used to like fig rolls until my gran decided it would be a great idea to disinfect everything in her home ...including herself with TCP

Everytime I visited her my nostril hair dissolved and when she offered the fig rolls to go with the tepid tea she made, all I could taste in my mouth was TCP

So TCP and fig rolls have been firmly put in my room 101 of biscuity snacks

Katiekitty · 30/01/2011 22:33

Ah, I do love a Garibaldi though Tomhardy the sheer delight of pulling out a whole, un-broken sheet of them from a packet is unparalleled!

before I had my own dd I would pick my DN up from nursery and he would always save the fig roll from his lunch box. It always made me feel very special.

sevendwarves · 30/01/2011 22:36

I'm going to be foolish brave and announce that I HATE PARTY RINGS.

Chocolate caramel digestives are the best though! Unfortunately I can't buy them as I have no self control.

Katiekitty · 30/01/2011 22:42

sevendwarves all biscuits welcome, you are among friends, fear not for your dislike of Party Rings.

Like life, if we all favoured the same things, it would be a dull old party

So, what's your technique for grappling with the caramel digestives then?

OP posts:
sevendwarves · 30/01/2011 22:44

My view is that all biscuits must be dunked.

When I'm PM it will be the first policy I introduce.

RantyMcRantpants · 30/01/2011 23:00

For those that want the recipe for Peanut Butter Cookies here we go Grin They are the simpelist biscuit ever.

6oz caster suger
7oz crunchy or smooth peanut butter (I buy supermarkets cheapest)
1 egg
1 teaspoon bicarb soda

Heat oven to 180degC

Bung Sgar and PB in the food processor and whizz until mixed. Add egg and bicarb and whizz until mixed.

Line baking sheet with parchment. Roll the mix into balls and flatten and put on the tray.

Put in the oven for 10-15 mins.

EAT!! Grin

Not my own recipe but my friend posted it on her Facebook and I pinched it.

I know that the plural of anecdotes isn't data and all that, but I have a harrowing tale for you all.

After a difficult night of no sleep with DD who has gastroenteritis, then a day of looking after her, I rewarded myself with the king of all wafer-based snacks: the Tunnock's caramel bar. But lo! It wasn't chewy! No fricking toffee to be found! It was basically a pimped-up KitKat.

Beat that disappointment. (Don' even try, you can't.)

RantyMcRantpants · 30/01/2011 23:57

Glad to be of service Realeyes. Hope you enjoy Grin

sevendwarves · 31/01/2011 09:00

Oh no loopy, you must have been devastated! Have you recovered yet?

LoopyLoopsPoopaScoop · 31/01/2011 10:08

Still breathing deeply to get over the shock. The question now is - return the rest of the pack or try again?

wigglesrock · 31/01/2011 10:22

Sorry, you cannot beat a custard cream, the baked beans of the biscuit world, always yummy. Dd2 loves party rings, blame her parent and toddler group, they start them off early on the old party ring here.

Housemum · 31/01/2011 10:47

Ginger nuts are the ultimate dunking biscuit - sturdy enough to withstand the dunk.

I'd totally forgotten the mallow fanjos - really soft biscuit base IIRC?

I have dim recollections of some biscuits from the early/mid 70's that were a child's delight - I hope I didn't just dream them. They had pictures of monsters on the pack, and were really bright colours - pink and green come to mind. Round biscuits, about 9/12 in a pack, sort of macaroonish texture (thinking coconut macaroons not the posh French ones). Am I on my own there?

fuzzypicklehead · 31/01/2011 11:12

Ranty, should there be some flour in your recipe?

I submit for your approval: The Jam Cream. The best of both the jammy dodger and the custard cream, and easy to seperate the halves.

RantyMcRantpants · 31/01/2011 11:16

Fuzzy nope! no flour :)

It is the easiest recipe ever.

marriednotdead · 31/01/2011 21:04

Were they always called Mikados though buzz?

Maybe there's been a fight over the name cos <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=www.caterersearch.com/assets/getasset.aspx%3Fitemid%3D21369&imgrefurl=www.caterersearch.com/Articles/2009/05/01/327672/Mikado-chocolate-biscuit-sticks-from-Kraft-Foods.htm&h=150&w=150&sz=11&tbnid=V3BsAUNHQUA4dM:&tbnh=96&tbnw=96&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dmikado%2Bbiscuits&zoom=1&q=mikado+biscuits&hl=en&usg=__4h6chiGCYhULijzyOlWTMyGvPwU=&sa=X&ei=PSNHTcvXBcSohAemvrGhAg&ved=0CB0Q9QEwAw" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">these are the current version it seems.

I just look at the fanjos biscuits in the packet- sort of social sight reading Grin

BuzzLightBeer · 31/01/2011 21:09

No they a re Mikados in Ireland which is where the company and the biscuits come from, they changed the name in the UK to Jam Mallows. Do you even have chocolate Kimberlys in your god-forsaken country?
Wink

beachholiday · 31/01/2011 21:10

Has anyone ever tried that trick with australian tim-tims? or penguins?

You bite off 2 corners diagonally opposite to each other (small bites)

Then dunk and hold one end in tea or coffee so one hole is under the liquid and suck through the other hole like a straw.

Hot tea melts the filling while biscuit stays intact for a while inside the chocolate coating.

Then eat hot/melty biscuit.

Is heavenly with caramel tim-tims.

marriednotdead · 31/01/2011 21:29

I luurve chocolate Kimberleys!

Can find them very occasionally in big supermarkets, especially in areas with a large Irish population. Not seen any for ages Sad

The Mikados are in the ethnic food section of my local Morrisons Grin

Beachholiday, we used to do that with chocolate fingers in coffee. Have to time it right so they don't disintegrate into the cup Smile

Katiekitty · 31/01/2011 21:33

First one to post a picture of these magnificent sounding biscuity friends gets a prize!

I want to see a Kimberley

I haven't lived!

Oi and TrollyMc I spend longer than was neessary today browsing the aisles for the FLAVOURED Jammie Dodgers...

Not a whiff of them...

Where, o-where might they be?

OP posts:
dexifehatz · 31/01/2011 21:35

I didnt know there were other jammy dodger flavours either! I will have to try them.
My technique for jammy dodgers is to nibble round the jammy part, or to lick the jam then eat the biscuit
