... and within 15 minutes be sat in my bed with my lappy, the telly on, and a very large vodka?

She's 16, so not a kid, and she's only gone to her dad's, but I usually droop around the place for a bit after she's gone (goes every other weekend), but this week has been bloody hard work and I haven't been well and the pressure's really on at work and I just want to flop in peace and maybe become a little pissed as a fart merry.

God no! YANBU. There are very few benefits to being a single parent as I was for 3 years. ONE of those benefits is a well-earned break from the constant responsibility. Pour a vodka and enjoy the telly. I'd join in were I not newly prego! At the risk of "going all self-help" maximise your you time. Wink

YANBU

My kids are two, five and seven and I have to wait till they are all in bed before my friday night can 'start' by which time I'm usually too tired to do anything- even enjoy a drink.

Enjoy your well-deserved night off however you want to.

When I first read your post I expected you to have typed this at half-three this afternoon Grin

catseverywhere · 28/01/2011 20:33

Wagon, that's it - constant responsibility! I'm usually fine with it, am glad the kids live with me (got older twin sons, but they are busy tonight with gfs), but just once in a while having time to myself is BLISS. Congrats about the pregnancy :)

Seanbonbon - I remember those days well, like you I had 3 under 5 at one point - knackered is the default setting for any mum with young children :)

No way! Enjoy it!

IDontThinkSoDoYOU · 28/01/2011 20:36

Ooooh me too! I waved my 16 year old off (put her on the train so I don't have to drive for 3 hours!!!!) and have started on a lovely fizzy white one.

And relax! You can have some me time too you know! Damn that housework, it will wait!

xx

blametheparents · 28/01/2011 20:38

I waved DS off tonight on a cub trip. Won't see him again til Sunday evening.
Yes, I love him. Yes, I look forward to seeing him again. But I will still enjoy the peace while he is away!

berri · 28/01/2011 20:39

Yabu - you should definitely have some chocolate orange or something similar to keep to your five-a-day to go with your vodka.

catseverywhere · 28/01/2011 20:43

Not got chocolate orange, but there is a tube of fruit pastilles left over from Christmas - well, that surely is lots of different fruits so even more healthy?

is loving it here

YADNBU

Son is staying at grandparents tomorrow evening, I shall be home alone and nursing a large one.

tralalala · 28/01/2011 20:58

oh seaborn, I was hoping it would get easier by then (mine are 8 months,3 and 5) . I feel slightly insane today.

I love them but havent had a 'day off' for over a year, but I do have a dh around sometimes, so know it is better than some.

newmum001 · 28/01/2011 21:01

DD is 4 months old and AIBU to look forward to her being old enough to do her own thing so i can go to bed with a large vodka??

Enjoy it, i know i will when that day finally comes Grin

seanbonbon · 28/01/2011 21:20

Shit, sorry Tralalala, it does get easier honestly!

I still am tired and very busy but on the plus side last weekend my eldest took her brother and sister downstairs-gave them cheerios and juice and then turned on the telly for them while myself and DH had a little lie-on.

Of course we didn't go back to sleep but just being able to stay in bed until I woke up properly was bliss.

seanbonbon · 28/01/2011 21:22

It's these little things (like a tiny lie-on or going to bed with a vodka on a friday night!) that keep us going..

tralalala · 28/01/2011 21:38

seanbon...thanks! I look forward to that...
