Seriously, unless you're a miner or from a mining family, or Welsh... ok well even if you are, surely not EVERYONE hates Maggie T?

I'm a tad young, I was born in her "reign", but I did my degree in Politics and although I didn't really live under her (it was Major until I was 11) I couldn't see what she did that was SO terrible-let alone the sheer hostility when her name is mentioned here (in Wales!).

Thatcher is beyond contempt.

And whats with the "anyone celebrating a death is evil"? Didn't people celebrate Hitlers death? Stalin? Mussolini? Franco? Saddam Hussein?

I wouldn't waste good champagne on anything to do with Thatcher, but I'll raise a G&T to see the auld bag off.

gordyslovesheep · 30/01/2011 20:35

If you DO crack open a bottle would that make you a champagne socialist? (as well as a god awful evil person beyond contempt)

newwave · 30/01/2011 20:52

Pascoe, That should have been "rancid old hag".

Thatcher was an evil, callous old hag, it is she who deserves any contempt.

As for your opinion of me, I dont give a fuck for it or you.

EdgarAleNPie · 30/01/2011 20:56

erm..you think an increase in home-ownership only benefitted wealthy people?

you think having working heat and light only benefitted rich people?

you think the right-to-buy only benefitted rich people?

the death-knell of the 11+?

you must think at least 43% of the population was wealhy then, because that's the percenage that voted her in...or thereabouts..three times.

EdgarAleNPie · 30/01/2011 20:57

and the death of a truly evil person i still sad - sad because their time was so regrettable.

she was a politican in the UK - get a grip!

gordyslovesheep · 30/01/2011 21:00

nope - 43% of those who VOTED maybe - voting is not compulsory

BuzzLightBeer · 30/01/2011 21:01

get a grip? Tell that to the families of the hunger strikers, many of who would kill her themselves given half the chance. Hmm

newwave · 30/01/2011 21:09

Under her government Westminster council (Tory) moved families into asbestos ridden flats so as to gerrymander the counil vote, Thatcher tried to block the inquiry.

EdgarAleNPie · 30/01/2011 21:12

it was over wanting to continue being paramilitary thugs in prison! They starved themselves to death over something that looks pretty daft to me. Not suprising there was initially little public support.

EdgarAleNPie · 30/01/2011 21:15

..and radingthat wii article the stikes began in 1917 - so entirely to do with MT then???

gordyslovesheep · 30/01/2011 21:16

ah so it's okay to be rude about people who starved themselves to death in protest at being imprisoned without trial by her but sick and evil and wrong etc etc to not care about her death - oooookay then !

EdgarAleNPie · 30/01/2011 21:17

erm, they were convicted, and 'no sympathy' is very far from 'cracking open champagne'

EdgarAleNPie · 30/01/2011 21:19

and how do you read that description of what the strike was about?

BuzzLightBeer · 30/01/2011 21:20

you really haven't a fucking clue.

gordyslovesheep · 30/01/2011 21:21

seriously I do know I am old enough to remember it happenig

ManateeEquineOhara · 30/01/2011 21:22

EdgarAleNPie - you think an increase in home ownership was positive!!! WTF, are you mad!? The right to buy was hideous, selling off social housing never to be replaced. OF COURSE that only benefited the rich, yes 'less rich' people could buy, but what about those who couldn't!!!? And the benefiting of the rich here has existed over time with many ex-council properties now owned by private landlords and rented out to those who can no longer get social housing because of right to buy - social and economic polarisation at its strongest, all MT enabled.

UnquietDad · 30/01/2011 21:25

Well, she's won if you are all going to be so fucking nasty when she dies.

She's won.

That's all.

Think about that.

gordyslovesheep · 30/01/2011 21:27

it's not nasty having a nice glass of champagne it;s yummy :)

she didn;t win - never has never will :)

UnquietDad · 30/01/2011 21:28

Deeply ironic, and it's so sad that all the hatemongers cannot see it.

verytellytubby · 30/01/2011 21:29

Er yes I do and all my friends and our parents.

I don't wish her dead (haven't read all off the thread)

BuzzLightBeer · 30/01/2011 21:30

I don't follow your argument. If we'll be happy when she dies, she's won? Won what exactly?

Where's the irony? You're not actually making any sense there UQD.

spongefingerssavedmylife · 30/01/2011 21:31

I can't believe that anyone is stupid enough to think that Thatcher was 'evil', do you actually know what the word means? Do you seriously think she purposely 'closed down the mines' and 'took you milk' becuase she hated poor people? Not that it could be possibly have been essential to sort the economy out, in order that the better things could follow? Or that the old industries had been slowly dying for generations. Her choices may have been right or wrong but they were made with good intentions. WHat a bunch of deluded people.

All you people with 'champagne on ice' - do you own homes? Do you earn more than the minimum wage, if you do do you give the surplus back to govt. to spend on other less fortunate people. Do you hope to improve things for your children and possible leave them something when you die? Or are you just a bunch of hypocrites?

gordyslovesheep · 30/01/2011 21:31

hatemongers oh pmsl 'we iz da haters' an all that - I am not a hatemonger I spread love and joy and kindness to all humanity - I am a socialist Grin

I just hate HER - surely we are all allowed one transgresion ?

BuzzLightBeer · 30/01/2011 21:33

anymore sponge ? get all that bile out there....

UnquietDad · 30/01/2011 21:34

Buzz - because if the supposed legacy she left is true, if she genuinely created a "nasty" society where people lack compassion, and all the similar accusations which are levelled her way, then those who would wish her dead asap, would "tramp the earth down" (whether literally or metaphorically), are planning to toast her death with lovely terribly left-wing champagne and to dance on her grave (again, either literally or metaphorically)... well, then these people are all demonstrating perfectly the very thing which they claim to decry.

Just because you don't get it doesn't mean I am not making sense.
