DH is set against it, but I don't see the problem.

DD wants a pair of these for her sweet sixteen birthday party.
I don't see the harm, they are afterall just a pair of shoes!! But DH is dead set against it. He has even got MIL in on the arguement against them. She's says "she'll do herself a mischief"

What do people here think? I'm right arn't I?

OP posts:
Honeybee79 · 26/01/2011 21:27

Once she can pay for her shoes herself then she can have them. In the interim, don't go there. They remind me of various shoes that I have - as DH says, the ones designed for fucking in, not walking in. Def not for a 16 year old!

But surely this is a joke?!

UntitledNo2 · 26/01/2011 21:33

Hehe, ItsGrace, snowglobes would be utterly amazing. Just imagine how you'd go about shaking up the snow Wink

UntitledNo2 · 26/01/2011 21:46

Oh, SummerRain, New Rocks! . We must have discovered clubbing around the same time, your silver and glitter ensemble sounds like something I would have lusted after back then!

Until I was 15, most of my clothing was covered in mirrors, was tie-dyed, and made from lace/crushed velvet. Also worn with silver/purple/flowered Docs.

After 15, it was platforms, glitter, and ludicrously short skirts all the way... Until my Goth stage, which was filled yes, New Rocks, corsets, long flowing skirts, lace and lycra.

I was young, hot, and had hipbones you could slice yourself open on. Surely the best part of being a teenager is the license to dress in an off the wall kind of way. If I still had that bod, I'd be doing the same now!!

Pumpster · 26/01/2011 21:51

She's 16, it goes with the territory surely!

UntitledNo2 · 26/01/2011 21:56

PS, Summer, that boy that you snogged and glittered? Had he a holey striped jumper, long greasy hair, filthy jeans and an air of brooding misery a la Kurt Cobain? Or a t-shirt saying 'Zero'? Grin

sadiesadiemarriedlady · 26/01/2011 21:57
Confused
DuelingFanjo · 26/01/2011 21:59

pull the other one!

pizzadelivery · 26/01/2011 22:10

I work in a secondary school and fwiw one of the women at work wears shoes like those, the kids call them her fuck me shoes

Limara · 26/01/2011 22:17

pizzadelivery Grin

There shoes, in a school? Mental! Grin and Shock and Biscuit

brightlightsandpromises · 26/01/2011 22:17

I was ready to come on here and say, no no, let her have the shoes, i walked about in stilts when i was that age, its the fashion, but NO!! oh no, over my dead body would my 16 year old DD wear those, and i will tell you why - occasionally DP and i will watch a bit of porn and those are the shoes that the women on those sorts of films wear for somet reason, there is absolutely no WAY on this earth i would let my DD wear them. My eldest DD is 20 and if she bought a pair i would sabbotage them!!

ivykaty44 · 26/01/2011 22:19

it is refreshing when a dad doesn't want his dd to look like a lapdancer in Flirt By Ellie Stripper Shoes Grin

TBH I think the clothing is for swingers mature couples wanting to spice up there life, robin hood and larger lady chamber maid outfits

SummerRain · 26/01/2011 22:21

Nope, he was a rugby player.... I had a thing for rugby players during the glitter era. Although he had the brooding misery part down all right Grin

The greasy lads became more predominant in my goth phase.

I totally agree... if I still had those hips, that stomach and the legs for it I'd still be dressing that way, the only reason I don't is that nobody wants to see a saggy woman, who's pushed out three babies and survives on biscuits and sweet tea, in a corset Grin

Limara · 26/01/2011 22:24

''survives on biscuits and sweet tea, in a corset '' Grin

LunarRose · 26/01/2011 22:26

Laughing like mad. They have about the same level of ridiculousness as the high helled trainer sandels I lived in for year in my teens

Actually I would say get them for her, On one big condition. If she can walk to the other end of the shop floor in them she could have them!!!!

Remembering the day (14/5?) I told mum I wanted a lacy see through shirt. She bought it for me and promptly found a super modest undergarment to go with it! Give way on the shoes, veto the rest of the outfit?

Shoes do not maketh the stripper.

StuffingGoldBrass · 26/01/2011 22:35

At 16 she is old enough to choose to dress like a stripper if she wants to. If you have given her sound advice about sex and relationships, including teaching her that she can wear what she wants and it doesn't mean anyone's entitled to harass her, then you've done a good job.
Actually I think your H's attitude is unhealthy: she's not a 'little girly' any more.

UntitledNo2 · 26/01/2011 23:12

Ah Summer, a Rugger Bugger... How unusual for a Goth Girl, crossing genres, love it! Although Rugby players do have fab bodies, so, mmm, I get that.

Oh how I used to love the greasy brooders. Until I ended up with a short haired, clean cut, computer geek/genius type Grin.

Oh, and don't let the three babies put you off... My Mum is mid-fifties, has had three babies (now gobby adults!), and still wears skinnies/body-con dresses/mostly Topshop. Break out your glitter and platforms, whilst necking some sweet tea Wink.

pizzadelivery · 26/01/2011 23:30

Limara Only difference is that hers are red Hmm and I get to do my first Biscuit Grin

Bunbaker · 27/01/2011 06:58

"Actually I think your H's attitude is unhealthy"

Shock Not at all. It is the sort of normal reaction I would expect from any protective dad. I would be far more worried if the OH's reaction had been a positive one. I would find it rather creepy.
TyraG · 27/01/2011 07:30

Ooh ooh I found more shoes, you should get your DD number 3.

pascoe28 · 27/01/2011 07:52

Is your daughter a slut? If so, no problem with them. If not, best think again.

gorionine · 27/01/2011 08:06

I just realised what bothers me. It is not at all that a 16yo would want to wear those shoes, it is the fact that it is done with the mother's blessing. In your story Onetoomanycornettos, your dad was tutting, he let you wear it but was still showing desaproval which is not OP's case.

RIZZ0 · 27/01/2011 08:35

Can we please have a [give me strength] emoticon for all the serious replies to this thread? It's a joke people! Some of you are far too seasoned on here not to know better!

claig · 27/01/2011 09:04

'I work in a secondary school and fwiw one of the women at work wears shoes like those, the kids call them her fuck me shoes'

Are parents aware that the headmistress is setting a bad example?

thankgod4cbeebies · 27/01/2011 09:05

She's going to do what she damn well wants anyway- that's what 16 year old girls do. I say, let her wear them (but don't pay for them), take loads of pictures and mock her relentlessly for the rest of her life like all good parents do!

Ivette · 27/01/2011 10:40

/flirt-by-ellie-stripper-shoes-7

thats not the name of shoes for a daughter! I personally would not let my daughter wear them! ever! but she is your and its your choice to let her dress like a stripper.
