DH is set against it, but I don't see the problem.

DD wants a pair of these for her sweet sixteen birthday party.
I don't see the harm, they are afterall just a pair of shoes!! But DH is dead set against it. He has even got MIL in on the arguement against them. She's says "she'll do herself a mischief"

What do people here think? I'm right arn't I?

Ask a relative to give her enough birthday money to buy the mad shoes?

My mum did once give in to pressure and buy me a pair of cutting-edge Mary Quant shoes for school. They met all the school requirements (black or brown leather, lace-up, square or rounded toe) but were patent leather with high, stacked heels and white trim Shock

I was the school fashion icon for at least a term!!

ItsGraceAgain · 26/01/2011 18:21

PonceyMcP - really???!!! That's hilarious! Most trannies can't walk in kitten heels, never mind those Grin

manicbmc · 26/01/2011 18:29

Just bought my dd (aged 16) these for her prom.

Can't do links Grin

shatteredmumsrus · 26/01/2011 18:34

they are vile hookers shoes - sorry but she will (anyone would) look horrendous and not be able to walk properly. She will never forgive you when shes older for letting her wear such bad footwear. Im a very young mum and love fashion, these are not fashion!

sweet 16 birthday party?
Do explain?!
Never heard of that!
Those shoes look like hooker shoes. IMO.

bulby · 26/01/2011 19:07

Poncey, not all of us ladies have dainty feet, it's a nice change to see shoes in big sizes. Although admit I wouldn't be seen dead in those monstrosities.

upahill · 26/01/2011 19:19

StuffingGoldBrass You beat me to it! I was going to say what you did!

If you can't wear daft clothes/shoes when your 16 when can you.

It's all part of growing up and looking back nostaligcaly or having a laugh about what you thought was great when you were a teenager.

Let her get on with it.

jalopy · 26/01/2011 19:32

Does a pole come with them?

Acanthus · 26/01/2011 19:34

Will you be changing her name to one involving the same name twice? Wink

It doesn't matter what kind of shoes you are wearing - you aren't asking to be followed home by men or saying you are up for a one nighter.

I wouldn't choose them for myself. I wasn't letting my parents choose my clothes at the age of sixteen. Sure they could express an opinion, but it was my choice. Or was my choice of DM's advertising me as a lesbian, seeing as we are into shoe stereotypes.

gorionine · 26/01/2011 20:17

"It doesn't matter what kind of shoes you are wearing - you aren't asking to be followed home by men or saying you are up for a one nighter."

Quite right there Ismene. but the hights of those stilts shoes surely they come with a health and safety warning!

UntitledNo2 · 26/01/2011 20:53

StuffingGoldBrass - yes yes. I wore all manner of daft shite when I was 16. Including ludicrous heels, lots of glitter, and once, a red Adam Ant-esque band of face paint across my eyes and literally from ear to ear (to a club, with a white dress, red tights, and white platforms, no less). Blush This was only 10 years ago, so not even the 80's Wink.

Dressing bizzarely/outlandishly is a rite of passage. I did it and it certainly didn't do me any harm (well, except for my love of heels and wine, though I imagine I was genetically predisposed to those anyway).

Anyway, there are much better shoes on that website. It it were me, I would definately opt for these. A light up truck girl? Fabulous Grin

Onetoomanycornettos · 26/01/2011 20:58

I don't personally like them but surely the point of having a 16th birthday party is to mark your passage into adulthood, and choosing your own hideous tasteful outfit is part of that. Better battles to fight. At sixteen my dad was regularly making the joke 'why are you going out wearing your belt?' when I tottered down in my mini-skirt, but they didn't stop me going out or tell me what to wear.

ItsGraceAgain · 26/01/2011 21:00

Oh, how barmy! Love them, UN2! Can you get ones with snowglobes in the platforms? I'd like those :)
Though possibly couldn't wear them, in lumbering middle age ...

FabbyChic · 26/01/2011 21:01

She will look like a hooker.

Is that how you wish to portray your 16 year old as older than she is?

mumsgotatum · 26/01/2011 21:02

Is this a joke? i am sure it is....aside from the fact that they are hideous shoes, they are stripper shoes!!

PrincessScrumpy · 26/01/2011 21:03

I like the lace ones somebody else suggested. I think the plastic ones are hiddeous but I wore platforms when I was 14. Wouldn't buy ones called stripper shoes though - I'd find a compromise. Try Faith or Topshop.

Quattrocento · 26/01/2011 21:06

The OP is insane, I think

Why would anyone want their teenage daughter to look as though she is on the game? I mean why?

mumbar · 26/01/2011 21:18

I don't like them personally, but agree that if your young adult DD wants to wear them then its her choice. I wouldn't pay that much though, in case she realises they huuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrt! Grin

SummerRain · 26/01/2011 21:21

untitled... we started clubbing in the same era methinks Grin

I went to a school Xmas night out wearing a silver asymetrical dress, silver platforms and doused head to toe in glitter once. The poor boy i snogged had glitter all over him Grin

then I decided to be a metelar/goth and could often be seen out in my knee high New Rocks, long black skirt split all the way to my hips at each side, corset tops and heavy black make up.

And you know what? I was 16/17/18 and could bloody well pull it off Grin

Panzee · 26/01/2011 21:23
