We have a lady in the local village who stands outside the hardware store. She is there come rain or shine, through the snow and the wind. I just smile and say no thankyou. Am I mean?

scurryfunge · 26/01/2011 15:36

She probably has mental health issues. I wouldn't take it personally.

DuplicitousBitch · 26/01/2011 15:37

she doesn't have mental health issue, she is quite rightly getting fecked off in the cold adn taking it out on me.

OP posts:
scurryfunge · 26/01/2011 15:38

What is she saying then?

ShirleyKnot · 26/01/2011 15:38

YABU for shopping at the Co Op, they're stuff is shitpensive.

There's a Big Issue man outside the Waitrose here. He's ever so friendly and I like his little dog.

DuplicitousBitch · 26/01/2011 15:39

of course waitrose would have a nice big issue seller. i don't know what she is saying cos she is romanian

You're just trying to get a jump on a Saturday afternoon eh? I've seen that advert.

Maybe you could buy an issue off her and then she'll leave you alone?

McHobbes · 26/01/2011 15:41

Just ignore it! Are you so precious as to imagine everyone has to be nice to you all the time? There are some odd people about and not all of them are sweetness and light! Newsflash!

Ignore her and get on with your shopping.

warthog · 26/01/2011 15:41

growl at her maybe?

DuplicitousBitch · 26/01/2011 15:41

i don't want a big issue.

OP posts:
scurryfunge · 26/01/2011 15:41

Anyone who mutters menacingly at random strangers (with no provocation) probably has some bigger issues than the Big Issue.

DuplicitousBitch · 26/01/2011 15:42

it has started recently, agree it can't be a bundle of laughs standing there but i have always be polite before.

OP posts:
ShirleyKnot · 26/01/2011 15:43

I'm out of ideas

DuplicitousBitch · 26/01/2011 15:43

i will jsut stop going [feeble]

OP posts:
seeker · 26/01/2011 15:46

Complain. There are rules about how Big Issue sellers behave, and the ones who behave badly give the others a bad naem.

But why don't you buy one?

DuplicitousBitch · 26/01/2011 15:46

dh buys it

OP posts:
scurryfunge · 26/01/2011 15:46

You could always learn the Romanian for "No thank you, get a proper job"

DuplicitousBitch · 26/01/2011 15:47

thats nice scurry, i'm sure she would appreciate the effort and then go and get a job in a bank cos she hasn't thought of that already ffs

OP posts:
FindingStuffToChuckOut · 26/01/2011 15:48

I don't buy it but I always give them a smile (I don't buy any magazines anymore - don't need the rubbish)

scurryfunge · 26/01/2011 15:49

Just responding to the tune of your original post.

DuplicitousBitch · 26/01/2011 15:50

really scurry? i don't get that.

OP posts:
walkinZombie · 26/01/2011 15:53

I got this alot in Fargate, theres one on every corner, one really emaciated woman was trying it on,

I'd bought one from somebody else so I told her, didnt belive me, was gonna give her some money anyway 'said here u are anyway' was quite offended by this (I didnt know what else to do tbh )

went to buy my lunch had to walk past her, she was glaring at me Sad

I have sympathy, but they should not intimidate people.

fatlazymummy · 26/01/2011 15:55

Just say no thankyou and move on. At least she's not playing panpipes like the man in our town centre.

scurryfunge · 26/01/2011 15:56

I don't understand how you can get upset about someone you can choose not to interact with, whose language you don't understand and whose difficulties you have no knowledge of. It just sounded a little unpleasant, that is all.

BuzzLightBeer · 26/01/2011 16:01

How could you know she has no mental health issues? Did you buy a psychology degree and fluent Romanian in the Co-Op (not coop btw, looks like you're only buying eggs)?
