All I know is they are apparently much wittier than I Sad.

They are kind, sweet, rich, beautiful and clever.

They live in my garden very quietly underneath a large mushroom and they sing in unearthly high pitched tones at dawn.

From reading ceratin threads within the MN archives, I get the impression they're a right bunch of cunts.

GrimmaTheNome · 26/01/2011 15:37

GM7 - if by that you mean they were all of the fanjo'd gender, AFAIK that would be true.

Why hasn't this kicked off yet?

It is the tragicomical story of a group of MNers who thought they were better than everyone else. They were the Mumsnet Oldies - "Moldies", in short. They didn't want to read about the same dilemmas from a never-ending onslaught of newbies. They just wanted to talk with the worthy ones. So they built a secret website only for themselves and whispered invitations to these worthy ones only after discussing among themselves whether they should be accepted or not.

Predictably, all this got out in good time. Those who were not invited were offended, especially when they heard details of the discussion about whether to let them in the golden gates or not. Others were not even considered and hurt even more. Much wailing followed. It was all quite entertaining for a while Grin

By all accounts, moldies' dream website is not such a great place. As you might guess, two major factors that makes MN a great forum is (1) sheer numbers, and (2) differences of opinion. When you have very few people on a thread, mostly with the same viewpoint, it's apparently not such fun.

So they

...

GMajor7 · 26/01/2011 16:40

...yes??

CoteDAzur · 26/01/2011 16:57

Well, some are back but most are not.

After the initial wave of tears, anger, and resentment, MN has settled at a somewhat better place than before, imho. For example, there is no more berating of newbies for posting a subject that has been talked about many times before their time. There is also much less thread hijacking with the likes of "Hi xxx, we missed you the other day" "Oh hi, you remember that guy I told you about, bla bla" while others on the thread count sheep and wait for their personal exchange to be over.

Anyway, I'm not the most clued in MNer at all. Someone with better info will surely come at some point and fill in the details.
