To not want my 6 year old on an overnight school trip?

Or am I being too protective? She's starting a new school in a couple of weeks and the head told me that they have a one night overnight trip in April...year 2....is this really really young for that kind of thing?

DD will only have been going to the school for a couple of months but I read that it takes 6 weeks for them to settle...so she MIGHT be ok...but even then....Hmm

He told me that if a child's parentsdont want them to go overnight then they can go for the day activities....its not far away.

I just dont' see the point of it? He said they have overnights ever year and by the time they are ten they go to france....

This is a state school..is this usual so young...and more to the point do I send her?

I think it has to be your DD's decision doesn't it?

When do school need to know?

Can she start the school and then decide? The only problem with not telling her is the other children - they will know and may already be talking about it. So I would let her start and then in the first fortnight start to mention it.

Abd then let her decide. Try not to let any of your anxieties come across to her. Make it sound fun and exciting and something she has the chance to do if she would like to.

And once she starts can you find out who her "buddy" is if they have such a system or find out a couple of names and get some play dates in place.

Infact - is it possible to arrange one over half term before she starts?

TBH within 7 weeks, I;d imagine she will be pretty much settled with new friends. Children are generally amazing at that side of things and are way more capable than we often give them credit for.

I know they were a year older, but seriously the new girl went ont he 3 day residential last year with DD's clas after a month and loved it.
