I'm usually a SAHM so never out at lunchtime but am doing a bit of work at the moment but nipped out in my lunch hour yesterday to return library books and post parcels...and library and PO were shut!!

I know these people need to have a lunch break but I was really surprised. AIBU?

POs definitely should be - ours is.

Library opening hours are a mystery to me - one which will only get worse I fear.

There's not enough staff & they have to have lunch.
Our PO is shut on a Weds afternoon.
Our library is shut on a Weds & Friday.

nickelbabysnatcher · 25/01/2011 14:40

blimey! you must live in a reeeeeeally small town! Shock

ours are open at lunchtime and even on wednesday afternoons these days!

GandTiceandaslice · 25/01/2011 14:40

Oh & PO is also closed for lunch. Library stays open all day on the days it's open.

tassisssss · 25/01/2011 14:42

Nope, I live in a city actually. Albeit a very small Scottish one that's really more of a town IMO!

The Wed afternoon thing annoys me too but I knew about that (as that's the day I always want to go to library/PO, why is that?!).

Had no idea they shut at lunch. I think there are alternative POs around that don't but I didn't have time to investigate that yesterday!

Totally agree with you. There must be Mums all over the country who would be willing to do 2-3 hours per day to cover lunch breaks, between school runs. If they were to pay them even mimimum wage, 15 hours work would earn enough to buy nice handbags make up designer tights extra bits for the kids

jellybeans · 25/01/2011 14:45

YANBU It also annoys me that my DRs do it.

compo · 25/01/2011 14:45

Trouble is they need to work 16 hours for their tax credits Grin
and library work and po work isn't minimum wage

Merrylegs · 25/01/2011 14:47

Can you not just put the books through the door of the library? Surely there is a drop box?

NinkyNonker · 25/01/2011 14:49

Po collection place is a pain in the arse. Opens at 0930, shuts for an hour after lunch, close at 1630. Not sure how working people are meant to get there!

Bumperrlicious · 25/01/2011 15:07

You're lucky to have a library open at all tbh.
