Brief run down of yesterdays events...

DD 4 been complaining of belly ache for ages, keeps coming and going. Last 3 weekends sick and in pain, couldn't eat or drink for 24 hours each time, in agnony. First weekend treat it as a stomach bug. 2nd weekend more worried trip to A+E not much help advised to get blood done of re-occurs. Sunday same thing so..

10.00am trip to GP yesterday for bloods GP started then said "oh I think you'd be better taking her to peadiatric clinic (miles away) where someone more experienced can do it, but dh will have to go back to get forms as she couldn't fill them in there and then.

DH brings dd home then goes back to drs to pick up blood form, she's not bothered ticking any of the tests that might need doing Hmm.

call clinic phlebotomist can't do it as out doing community visits GP insists tests are done today whilst she's ill. Advised to go to childrens out-patients at another hosp miles away.

DH and dd get there (I'm at home with ds 16m) they refuse as the blood form has the name of a different trust on. She starts retching and choking in dept so they send her and dh to A+E with dd in a wheelchair.

Paed A+E, wait for hours, examined by dr decides to send her to pead ward for bloods as he/she doesn't feel confident doing it, this in the pead department.

DH and dd sent to ward wrist band put on dd, nurse starts telling dh about where to get breakfast etc.(!). DH says we're here for bloods, they say oh no she's being admitted for observation. Emla cream on at this point.

This is 7pm, I arrange childcare to get down there and sort everything out as dh is a bit out of his depth. get down there for 9 once childcare arrived.

Dd lying in bed, bloods still not done "waiting on dr", nurses totally unhelpful.

I had to leave at 10.30 bloods still not done. DH calls me 12.30 AM!!! Dr just been to see them, had no knowledge of whole bloody rigamarole. Bloods attempted med staff not realising emla cream worn off. 3 ineffectual attempts dd terrified, emla re applied, 45 mins wait. Bloods done dd discharged at 1.30AM!!!!!

All because they bloody gp didn't do them. Complete catalogue of miscommunication and general crapness. And although I hate to say it being a nurse myself, the nurses were crap, drs not bad. Not one single bloody nurse in paed dept able to take bloods??!

I have to go to that ward tomorrow for work reasons, might be a bit awkward!! AIBU to want to write and explain what a nonsense this has all been?

DH brings dd home calls clinic w

mitziw · 25/01/2011 12:04

BLOODY HELL! yeah complain and i hope she is ok x

mumbar · 25/01/2011 12:25

I hope DD is OK. I would complain too. Your DD is ill and has been pushed from pillar to post, kept up late and made to travel home in the middle of the night in the cold. Not productive to to her.

mumbar · 25/01/2011 12:25

to her health.

Thanks for responding, dd up now, has eaten very pleased to be being spoilt by BOTH grandmas Smile

Very pale still and tired, poor lady. Picking results up tomorrow from ward in person, dropping in on way to work, who knows how long that may take Hmm.

DH said they all got a bit anxious when he told them where I worked as we have to liaise with that ward quite a lot (can't say on here though) and were keen for him to let me know they'd do their best!

Just hope we find out what's wrong.
