With all this talk about shuting down libraries. I am horrified. It's disgusting. What else will they do away with? Nappy changing facilities, buses? Hospitals? What were people thinking when they voted for thm?

And if 99p is standing between you and rent arrears I'd say the library closing should be the least of your worries.

GORGEOUSX · 23/01/2011 22:30

YABVU - Years of Labour are what got this country into the terrible mess it's in now.

They allowed immigration to get out of hand because they are their voters. They didn't give a shit about flooding the employment market / our hospitals / our schools with immigrants as long as they got enough votes to stay in power so that they could earn loads of money fiddling their expenses and send their DCs to private schools.

Flame me all you like - I'm the child of immigrants myself, so the PC Brigade and the Lefties can stick their "you're a racist/bigot" posts up their arses.

mama it is and it is

But I am fighting o the DLA thread as I post on this, had a job interview last week, registered self employed last week and have almost qualified now in my field

So you know, no point in worrying any more- aahrdly unaddressed.

sfxmum · 23/01/2011 22:32

immigrants can't vote in general elections until they change nationality

and I think immigration did get a tad out of hand but it might have more to do with supplying cheap labour than votes really

I don;t know if your child has some SN or is just at that age MtM but if Sn then she can get the key off ebay for a few quid.

if its the age is passes: PITA but it does- although absolutely there should be some quiet corner for a potty you would think.

you could get the book ordered usually, I think the local charged £1.25 per book when I wanted a few philosophy texts for uni.

sfxmum · 23/01/2011 23:10

propaganda or fact?

huddspur · 23/01/2011 23:12

Fact employment is the most common reason people move countries

GORGEOUSX · 23/01/2011 23:22

I concur. My immigrant parents have never claimed a single penny in benefits. They worked very hard for very little and paid taxes. They integrated into the communitity and helped many many people. They gave lifts to people for hospital appointments, took food to people when they couldn't manage, did shopping for old people, cleared their drives etc. When my father passed away, unexpectedly, the church was so packed with mourners, people had to spill out onto the street.

The Labour government flooded this country with immigrants - there was a leaked paper some years ago - because immigrants who settle here/relatives etc. tend to vote Labour, so it was a way of ensuring they stayed in power.

They didn't bank on the backlash from British people like myself (children of immigrants) being appalled by the NHS, employment market and schools being stretched to breaking point.

ReclaimingMyInnerPeachy · 23/01/2011 23:25

'Fewer of the population of those born abroad claim state benefits or tax credits than native-born Britons.?

'

is that in part becuase no country oputside Europe would touch famillies with a disability like ours?

And we can hardly schlep a child with ASD who is only just grasping English to anywhere with a different language LOL.

Shame- DH's skills much in deman elsewhere. Well tehya re here when he graduates. Just wish he'd bloody hurry up.

ambarth · 24/01/2011 09:24

YANBU.

coccyx · 24/01/2011 09:30

I am proud to have voted conservative. They can get us out ofthe mess labour has put us in. We needed the migrant workers as British born too bone idle and too easy to stay on benefits.
Yes it will be tough and will not happen over night. Country needed a reality check and kick up the arse

porcine · 24/01/2011 09:32

Immigrants can vote without changing nationality.

I did.

ReclaimingMyInnerPeachy · 24/01/2011 09:46

Tough coccyx?

You prepared to explain that to teh carers of disabled people whose claims were written off by unqualified ATOS workers and whose entire support system has been decimated with no recourse to appeal becuase the legal aid for that was withdrawn?

there are plenty of yough decisions to be amde: I'd have pulled apart the entire CSA and been a lot tougher on absent dads for a start, I don;t care if you ahve no job or are a student- you WILL pay something even if only a fiver.

Disabled people? not so much. Choice and all that.

ReclaimingMyInnerPeachy · 24/01/2011 09:47

Porcine- doesn't that depend on where you come from?

porcine · 24/01/2011 09:51

Not to my knowledge

ReclaimingMyInnerPeachy · 24/01/2011 09:52

Americans living in the UK with no nationality can't vote can they? as an example?

I will check with my American - no - Scottish friend

porcine · 24/01/2011 09:54

I have leave to remain and if I leave the country for more than 2 years in one hit I lose that . Yet I could vote.

ReclaimingMyInnerPeachy · 24/01/2011 09:56

Can Iask your country or origination?

I know if a person is from an EU nation then it is automatic; isn;t nationality / LTR quite hard to get these days?

porcine · 24/01/2011 09:57

I am from a non eu country

porcine · 24/01/2011 09:57

sorry, australian

GORGEOUSX · 24/01/2011 10:01

Thank you Porcine - of course you could vote. As I said, Labour realised that a lot of immigrants vote Labour so they decided to flood Britain with immigrants - it had nothing to do with the jobs market. The reason they did it was self-serving - it was all leaked some years ago - it's not a state secret.

Labour have created a huge mess - they couldn't manage the economy either, which is why the Tories now have to make such severe cuts.

ReclaimingMyInnerPeachy · 24/01/2011 10:01

Is commonwealth different?

Could google of course, though easier for a lazy arse like me to see if ExPat turns up or not LOL

GORGEOUSX · 24/01/2011 10:03

Reclaiming I think the law has changed since the time I'm talking about - a few years ago immigrants could vote - I think this has recently been changed.

porcine · 24/01/2011 10:08

Being in the commonwealth means absolutely jackshit.....we get no benefits whatsoever.
