to think other peoples babies are ugly

I'd say that 95% of babies are ugly, I look at them in the street and think my god look at those ears, the head of that one is a perfect square shape, thats a female! etc.

Then I look at mine and he's a handsome little chap and perfect, but I'm sure as I walk down the street with him someone else is thinking my god look at those ears etc.

I've had to seriously hold back the vomit in the past holding other peoples babies erghhhhh
It's when they have cradle cap hanging off their heads that do it for me! And i'm meant to coo at this point (heave)

Dd1 was born by c-section and had this perfect little head, everyone commented how gorgeous she was. Then when Ds was born rather quickly with a vaginal birth he had 2 black eyes and big swollen lips, he looked awful, dh and I looked at each other in a ' never mind, we'll love him anyway' kind of way. Dd2 came out like a little crumpled gerbil, when the professional photographer came round the hospital we politely declined. They are of course now all gorgeous, although looking back at photos gorgeous Dd1 actually looked rather like John Prescott.

MrsChemist · 23/01/2011 09:41

Prior to having DS, I thought all newborns were ugly. Now I think they all have a scrunchy-faced charm about them.

DS is and was, undoubtedly, the most perfect looking child ever though Grin

Yesterday a woman in a cafe said he was "absolutely adorable"

ThePosieParker · 23/01/2011 09:41

I truly thought all of my dcs were pretty beautiful, aside from dd as a 12-18mth baby, looking back I was only right about ds2 who was classically beautiful!! DD is stop in the street beautiful now, so I'm told.

I have to say I find other people's children not so attractive, except the very very cute and kind.

Fortress · 23/01/2011 09:42

Oh and I'll never forget the first time I met a friends baby (I don't see her anymore) she had such a weird deep cry/howl it sent shivers down my spine and she was bright yellow (poor thing). I've seen pictured of her now 5 years on and I'm sorry to say she's no stunner!

Sorry will stop being a complete bitch now Blush Grin

TattyDevine · 23/01/2011 09:47

Ooh Posie girls do go through an awkward stage about 12-18 months though...generally you let their hair grow so around this age its getting long in places but no "style" so wispy fringes all over their face, mullet at the back...its all a bit awkward until it grows a bit more and you can do a hairclip (which they dont just rip out immediately) or a Croydon Pineapple (topnot on top or something to get the hair off their face - they always look better then!)...

misdee · 23/01/2011 09:50

tatty i agree about girls hair. but dd2+3 were born with full heads of hair, and def didnt go through a wispy stage.

a total muck monster looking liker they have been pulled through a hedge backwards stage, howerver....

Firawla · 23/01/2011 09:51

yabu!! the majority of babies are cute, i can't believe you are all saying this

GwendolineMaryLacey · 23/01/2011 09:53

DD looked like Bernard Manning when she was born. You know that photo company that come round the hospital? Yeah yeah, I know, £60 PFB all that. The photo we got back was Bernard. I put it on my profile once and everyone agreed. She's even doing a thumbs up ffs.

theunmentioned · 23/01/2011 09:58

when dd was born i thought 'hmm' but now she is gorgeous at 17 weeks.

she must be because people always say so + people dont lie, do they? Hmm

TattyDevine · 23/01/2011 10:07

Um. No. They definitely dont lie, Unmentioned.

Crystaldolphin · 23/01/2011 10:08

I don't think they are ugly, just not as pretty as mine Grin.

Bumperlicious · 23/01/2011 10:24

Dh & I actually produce quite surprisingly attractive children! I think part of it is that their heads were nicely shaped. Some babies I've seen have really pronounced foreheads. Also dh and I are not stunningly attractive nor ugly, we have just regular features which I think helps make non-ugly babies. Some just have to grow into their features.

Dd2 did have bad baby acne for about a month though.

alphaO · 23/01/2011 10:31

I think you are some how not being Unreasonable. Before I had my DD I used to think that all babies are ugly. In scan pictures they look like aliens.

atmywitssend · 23/01/2011 10:32

My niece was a really scary looking baby but now she's 3 and gorgeous! Nephew used to look like Matt Lucas, now a dead ringer for Boris Johnson! So based on my nieces and nephews, YANBU. DS was, of course a gorgeous baby.

MadAboutQuavers · 23/01/2011 11:47

DS at 10 weeks has a lovely shaped head, fine blond hair, big blue eyes and smooth pink cheeks. He looks like Brad Pitt.

When he was born, he looked like Brad Pitt in Fight Club. You know, when his face was all swollen and his eyes were all piggy and half closed.

But still stunning. Grin

ShowOfHands · 23/01/2011 11:52

My mother always said that all babies were beautiful except you SOH, you were ugly.

Nice. Probably true though.

DD was quite a pretty baby. Not any more pretty than other babies, but she wasn't squashed or potato looking. I don't think so anyway. Grin

Ryoko · 23/01/2011 12:11

Mine looks just like his dad apparently everyone says it, then followed by the words I hope he doesn't go bald like him (DF is as bald as a cue ball at 29).

When he came out I thought he looked like an alien, big round blackish/purple disc eyes, totally bald, blank expression occasionally flicking a forked tongue out, due to tongue tie, thankfully he looks a lot better now (IMO anyway).

i hoped they would improve with age but they havent Confused

truffleshuffle · 23/01/2011 12:14

YABU.
IMO all babies are beautiful.
Just some are more beautiful than others Smile

tyzer2001 · 23/01/2011 12:17

One of my FB friends posted a pic of her 4D scan the other day.

It was scary as hell. If I thought that was growing inside me I'd be terrified! Grin

Did you know 4D scans are green? Makes it look like a mini Hulk.

upahill · 23/01/2011 12:19

I remember taking a picture of Ds1 when he was maybe 8 months. He looked really cute and I rememeber showing that picture to EVERYBODY and wondered why some wheren't that impressed!! I thought it was the most beautiful baby on the planet and people seemed to go 'Oh yes, a baby Hmm' and I would wonder what was up with them.

I found that picture about a year ago and laughed my socks off! It was a picture of a regular baby. Nothing different to the millions of babies around!

DS2 Now he was different. He looked like a beachball!

ivykaty44 · 23/01/2011 12:19

Ryoko, your baby is just as ugly as the next ugly baby Grin you are blind to it though just like all the other mothers are blind to their baby being ugly

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 23/01/2011 12:38

When DS was born, I was so high on pethedine and gas, I thought he was gorgeous. In fact he looked like Hey Arnold and my mum went home and cried as she thought he was deformed! Thankfully he turned very quickly into a golden haired angel!
The only truly ugly baby I've ever seen was a friends DD. She had no hair, a flat head, really short legs, long arms and huge broad shoulders! She stayed that way until she was about six! She looked like an orang-utan! She had an exceptionally pretty name as well that just made it worse!
She is now an incredibly pretty ten year old.
My DD was fairly attractive, but a total little bugger!
Currently, AlL babies look lovely, mainly because I want one!

rupert1 · 23/01/2011 14:47

Good point, never realy looked at my daughter properly usually busy changing nappies etc and buggy faces away so dont see her much not somthing thats ever occured to me. I thought One baby looks much the same as another
