to think that the spending cuts are going too far?

It was announced yesterday, that our local library has been earmarked for closure under the proposed cuts. It's only a small library in a small town, but it's very well used, I don't drive and the next nearest library is 10 miles away!

Also the council that one of my friends works for has announced they need to cut 1000 jobs, which is 10% of their workforce.

The health visitor also mentioned last week that the Bookstart scheme is going to be scrapped.

On top of all this (and putting all of the above into perspective) are situations such as Riven's where people need help but either aren't getting it or services they rely on (such as respite) are being cut.

Am I the only one getting thoroughly depressed by it all? I know that the country is broke and the money has to come from somewhere, but these are services that people need and rely on.

they need to stop being scared that "top bankers" will move abroad if they don't get their bonuses.

If they were so good at their bloody jobs, the government would not have had to bail the bloody things out in the first place, which would mean less of a debt and perhaps the money earmarked for vital services.

Stop rewarding failure.

I would rather see a library go and a day centre stay open.
The simple truth is the country is broke and something has to be done and no matter what cuts are made someone is going to loss something they need or rely on.

Cantspel I do agree with you but it doesn't seem like anything is getting priority, it just seems like everything is being either cut or closed.
