Rivens Plight

I do not mean to sound unreasonable, and whilst I wish Riven all the best and hope she gets all the help she needs, I think the media are getting carried away and the obtrusive way in which they operate won't be helpfull at all.

Anyway I care for DH (war veteran) and 2 DD's who both have emotional and behavoural problems the youngest of which was diagnosed with epilepsy this week. I was offered 1 or 2 hours respite a week for someone to take DH out whilst DD's were at school. I have had 6 years of SW telling me how to look after my children because of CP, based on what my ex-husband told SS 15 years ago. It took a pyscologist's report to prove what I had been saying was the truth and not just making it up. Having asked for help from Mr Cameron, Brown and several members of the cabinet, both present and last government, all I received was a standard reply saying they are sorry to hear about my problems but they couldnt get involved in individual cases. This must mean they can't get involved unless it lets them look good in the media.

I am not looking for media attention just the help I need to look after my family

oh so now CP is used for something else........

activate · 20/01/2011 17:14

Why the uproar - I think the OP is saying what I read Riven say - that this isn't about her but about the disgusting lack of help for all families who need it

I think the OP has the right to post and hasn't said anything bad about Riven at all

There is focus from PM because of the media

There is media because of Riven's situation

Riven herself wants the media focus to be about the lack of services and not about her individually

WTF is all the uproar about

Guacamole · 20/01/2011 17:19

There's absolutely nothing wrong with it, OP should definitely contact as many appropriate charities as she can!

I was trying to highlight all of the unnecessary bashing on all of the other threads going on.

missmehalia · 20/01/2011 17:19

What activate said.

Riven never meant for the focus to be on her. She has just used MN to vent, like we all do. It got picked up on..

I'm glad it has given a focus to the govt cuts, but hope the heat goes off her. The last thing she needs is more of the spotlight, I imagine.

BoobyMcLeaky · 20/01/2011 17:19

skatingmum that's politicians for you. All that kssing babies etc. for the cameras and insulting old ladies when no-one's looking.

I hope that everyone who was moved to help Riven yesterday remembers that there will still be a lack of services - regardless of whether Riven herself receives more support. I think the problem is that it is such a huge issue, and people don't really know where to start Sad

RIVEN - YOU ARE A STAR !!

Grin Grin Grin

klauskinskiinthekinotech · 20/01/2011 19:34

rolandweary your comments are just nasty and if you posted on the huge thread yesterday then you have to take a share of the blame re the media hype surrounding Riven otherwise you risk being called a hypocrite. Mnet should have offered their advice to Riven about how this would all pan out as I am sure the poor lass was in no position to think straight, Ihate all this breast beating and hypocrisy going on today and they have deleted some perfectly good threads today about this. There are a lot of double standards on mnet at the moment amnd I for one am thinking of taking a sabbatical

ReclaimingMyInnerPeachy · 20/01/2011 19:41

Um Emmylou I am so grateful of the DLA support campiagn: I am neitehr new (10 years standing) or a non SN parent.

missalien · 20/01/2011 19:58

I do wish there was a better way of getting help and for families such as yours to access the help they need and can have a voice and someone to listen. Its so hard to fight especially when so much of your precious energy goes to looking after your loved ones.

beachesforme · 20/01/2011 20:14

Poor taste, riven has done a lot on here and now she needs all of our support.

Trillian · 20/01/2011 20:16

Skating I am sorry you are being so badly treated, it shows mumsnet at it worst.

Shame only mumsnet royalty are deemed worthy of kindness and respect

skatingmum · 20/01/2011 21:43

Thank you for the post, it shows that you dont understand, yes it was about every carers plight I look after my DH and both my DD 24hrs a day with no support, I am very tired and would like a corner to curl up in but yet I keep on having to do battle with SS and Gp's who have used inaccurate information for 7 yrs, to protect my DD, no my DD are no longer on CP Register but the fact is I care that this mum is in criss and the original reason was not that I am on a bandwagon I am disappointed in the so called buracrates who fail the carers and having heard on Radio 4 AT 6PM THAT Mr Cammron does not think this is about the cuts he is right it is about caring for people. It has taken the Legion 7 years to become involved we have just got on with it - it was saffa who voted with ss at original cp case confrences to place my DD's on CP Register

Trillian I commend you for that last remark, that is what I thought but you have put it more eloquently. The Double standards machine is on overdrive at mnet today.

beachesforme · 20/01/2011 22:43
