I have just come across this article:

www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Huntingdon-St-Ives-St-Neots/Playgroup...

am i being unreasonable to be disgusted at how this can be legal.

Posie - your views are getting more extreme as you go on.

ThePosieParker · 20/01/2011 18:55

And FWIW many BNP supporters do not hate other races, at all. They just want British people put first. They probably overlook the vast racist tones of the party.

scurryfunge · 20/01/2011 18:56

keep going posie, you are doing a fine job.Smile

ThePosieParker · 20/01/2011 18:56

It's this sort of story that gives the BNP their leverage with this type of supporter.

mincenmash · 20/01/2011 18:57

posie, i think that they would need to be extremely ignorant or stupid to overlook the "vast racist tones" of such parties.

ThePosieParker · 20/01/2011 18:58

scurry....I can't be arsed with you, you remind me of my seven year old going through an annoying phase, only he's cleverer than you.

MIFLAW · 20/01/2011 18:58

"Why can't we be proud to be British and offended if people want to live here but hate the British?"

No one has mentioned hating the British except you. I can't imagine anyone but a nutjob hating the British and wanting to live here. We are not talking about such people but about a group of women who feel they would like to meet amongst themselves at a total cost to the public purse of £1k.

I would LOVE for you or anyone else to define National Pride, with or without capital letters.

Mrsruffalo

Tommy Cannon is/was an unfunny comedian.

"What's it to you?" Well, it has a potential impact on the validity of your point. If, for example, you are a British or Commonwealth woman and spent a fortnight in Canada, that's a bit different to six months in russia or France and even more different to settling for life in, for example, Egypt. And, in any of those settings, the further you are away from a healthy, wealthy and high-prestige ex-pat community - even if you never "get involved" with it - the greater the potential alienation you will feel.

It struck me as a pretty fair question but obviously it is entirely up to you whether you answer.

scurryfunge · 20/01/2011 19:00

Ha ha! Sorry I just cannot abide bigots.

Great to see you digging yourself a very big hole though.

ThePosieParker · 20/01/2011 19:00

Of course you do. But if you take the time to ever talk to a BNP supporter, like I have or rather argue with, then you find out the motivation is what they see. Hard working poor people are fed stories of Polish builders taking all their jobs, Muslims that hate Britain, white sink estates are the scum of the earth, noone looking after their interests. They do not see the BNP excluding people, just including them.

giyadas · 20/01/2011 19:01

I don't think pandering to the most ignorant amongst us would produce a society worth living in tbh. And if, having swallowed every tabloid lie, they spout racist opinions then they are very likely to be racist. To try and excuse them on they grounds that they are uneducated is patronising.

ThePosieParker · 20/01/2011 19:03

g...seriously the BNP supporter I spoke with was not racist and refused to believe the BNP were. I'm not making it up. I know that they are, I worked in a pub that was petrol bombed by them because our DJ was black.

MIFLAW · 20/01/2011 19:04

"Surely you can't think that the whole of the pre war Germany was full of evil people. It only takes the right amount of poverty and negligence to produce a whole party of followers to the far right."

No - but then the vast majority of pre-war Germany did not initially support the National Socialists who hijacked power by undemocratic means.

Nor, the last time I checked, did we have hyper-inflation or crippling war debts to pay.

And i never said they were evil.

I said they were racist.

and my evidence for that is that they support a party with blatantly racist policies.

I am sure Hitler himself was a nice guy at home with his dogs; and I am sure the engine drivers on the Auschwitz line were hard-working to a fault. It is totally irrelevant.

ThePosieParker · 20/01/2011 19:04

I don't think pandering to a group of grown women and allowing them to run a playgroup that bans British people is acceptable.

ThePosieParker · 20/01/2011 19:06

MIFLAW....some of them are not racist.

Besides this is not about the BNP and how they trick the voter, this is about a playgroup discriminating against a group of people.

It's wrong, it would not happen anywhere else in the world. Women of colour in the states are still American.

mattahatta · 20/01/2011 19:07

Posie no where in the article does it say that the other members of the group do not want British people there. no where does it say they hate the british, and like it or not it isprobably due to regulations placed on the funding that the group has to run like this...

My parents live in China....they integrate too.

ThePosieParker · 20/01/2011 19:09

And it's very patronising to think 'foreign' women are so meek that they need a little arm up with anyone who is not British before they can mix with us.....fucking insulting.

giyadas · 20/01/2011 19:13

I don't think you can discriminate against the dominant culture, in that I don't believe it's possible. This group does no harm to the dominant culture, isn't depriving the dominant culture of valuable resources, it's just providing an opportunity for those that are very rarely listened to or represented a small space to get together. I really don't see the problem.

totally agree GIYADAS

fedupofnamechanging · 20/01/2011 19:15

Was it not more than £1,000? Might have misunderstood but I thought an additional £5,000 came from some quango.

However much, or little money it has cost, the fact remains that it has been part funded by the people who are not allowed to attend.

If this was an entirely privately funded group then I would say the organisers have a right to include/exclude whoever they want. But it isn't entirely privately funded.

If the women who attend this group obtain British citizenship, will the people running it tell them they are no longer welcome? There are lots of flaws with this group

giyadas · 20/01/2011 19:17

Some of the women may well be more integrated than others, but also have more experience of being the outsider than a white british person so could more easily help those that are in the same situation.

PatFig · 20/01/2011 19:18

Start a group for white English mums only and see what happens

mrsruffallo · 20/01/2011 19:19

So rich, white, braying women do not exist outSside of the UK?
I can introduce you to some if you want
