To hate couples snogging on public transport

swanandduck · 19/01/2011 12:29

It makes my toes curl when some couple stand on the bus or tube gazing into each other's eyes, kissing, pecking, stroking etc. Surely there's an appropriate time and place. Some couples are only short of conceiving their PFB right there and then in front of commuters and school kids and....

GET A ROOM

I think it's lovely when I see that sort of thing. Not full on face sucking, but the rest of it's ok. I like seeing it in older couples because it gives me hope that DH and I will still be loved up in 20 years time.

BeenBeta · 19/01/2011 13:29

Long train journeys with DSs always seem to result in us being sat witin view of a couple of students snogging. I agree it is gross. Bit of hand holding and closeness is OK - even at age 47 me and DW do that on a train/bus.

On the other hand I came across a middle aged couple in the cereal aisle of a supermarket standing close and silently just staring intently into each others eyes. There was something about them that struck me as romantic. They were alone in the aisle until I turned up and I sort of felt I should leave them alone and turned back to go to the tinned goods aisle. Blush

Hullygully · 19/01/2011 13:30

That cereal aisle is deadly. Stay away.

LaurieFairyonthetreeEatsCake · 19/01/2011 13:33

My name is LFC and we are handholders Blush

DH also occasionally kisses the top of my head (am a midget)

No snogging or blow jobs though.

MoonGirl1981 · 19/01/2011 13:37

I kiss my partner, hold his hand and look lovingly at him. Nothing more extreme though.

It makes us happy.

And a nice contrast to all of the people shouting/smoking/swearing/spitting/crying (I must live in Britain's chavviest town).

If I thought we were offending anyone I'd stop.

onimolap · 19/01/2011 13:47

"So a pat on the hand is fine, but a blow job on the bus is out?"

Too damn right! Or perhaps your route is pot-hole free and without raised pedestrian crossings.

swanandduck · 19/01/2011 14:04

To clarify, I don't find it toe curling when people kiss, gaze etc on the street. In fact, it's nice to see a couple sharing a moment as you pass by. It's just on public transport because you're stuck there and get to see a full fifteen minute performance.

Well that's just totally inappropriate. I'm surprised you weren't arrested Angry

AbsofCroissant · 19/01/2011 14:58

I agree with OhTheHugeManatee's categorisation (for want of a better word)
Handholding - yes
Hugging - yes (unless it moves into the dry humping area, then that's out)
Kissing - yes, to a degree
Snogging with lots of tongues and noise - no
Groping - no
Particularly the bum grope I witnessed once where some of the guy's fingers had, erm, disappeared somewhat. Upwards into her vag

mrsmillsfanclub · 19/01/2011 15:00

We got told to 'get a room' BlushBlush recently at the airport by a 20 something shop assistant, presumbly on her lunch break as we said goodbye at departures. dh was going abroad for several months No tongues were involved, perhaps it was disgust that a couple over the age of 30 were kissing that irritated her so much. Dh wanted to lamp her one (he is emotional at goodbyes)Grin.

Hullygully · 19/01/2011 15:01

Oh i love vadgy fingers. They're my favourites! Did she suck them after?

MittzyBittzyTeenyWeeny · 19/01/2011 15:08
nikki1978 · 19/01/2011 15:12

ROFL @ vadgy fingers!

I don't mind affection in public. I don't even mind snogging but if I can hear the noises I get very nauseous. I can't bear the sound of people kissing, I even have to turn over if I hear the sound on TV.

Urrrggghhh!

AbsofCroissant · 19/01/2011 15:20

I don't know Hully. I ran away, I was so perturbed (very delicate soul that I am)

jaydulwich · 20/01/2011 23:53

this was so funny. I also find it very cringey
on the bus or train , its nice for people to be in love but at the same time save it for when your indoors . . . . oh well maybe i have just forgotten lol

LongtimeinBrussels · 21/01/2011 00:28

I saw an older couple (about 60ish) really going for it on the metro the other day. The smacking noise they were making with their lips was rather disturbing!

TheEvilDead2 · 21/01/2011 00:53

Umm YANBU, but on the very late trains after a couple drinks I've been known (back in the day) to be a bit friendly myself. Old people and children tend to be asleep so don't feel to bad Grin

woollyideas · 21/01/2011 01:06

It depends. Not if obvious tongues are involved.

aurynne · 21/01/2011 01:23

When I started going out with DP, he was a bit "kiss-shy", to give it a name. I am Spanish and he is a Kiwi. I am used to people holding hands and kissing in public, while in New Zealand you always have to ask if so and so are together or not, because nothing distinguishes lovers from friends at first sight. I used to find it very funny when I gave him a peck on the lips in the street and he would look around to check if someone was looking... so one day I jumped on a bench, made him come up with me, and gave him a humongous kiss. There were lots of people around.

He happily holds hands and kisses anywhere now. I think after that episode, he decided he could not be more embarrassed Grin

bathbuns · 21/01/2011 01:30

Can I just say I have spent the whole evening kissing a man. Twas lush. First date, too! It was in a bar though, not on a train, so I hope that's allowed.
He was such a good kisser.

Sorry, had to write that somewhere. All friends asleep.

Goodynuff · 21/01/2011 05:00

Me and the Mr. hold hands, stare deeply, and kiss Grin the kids shout "get a room" and DH responds, "We did, and your in it"
We try to behave in public, (mostly) and I get the freeky thing ....
(looks around) i walked in on my grandparents!!!!! (shudder)
