I really don't want to come into work and catch a glimpse of everything and I mean EVERYTHING when someone bends over to put paper in the photocopier. Lovely outfit for a night out but not the office.

am I being a prude?

Got to love the Hawaiian shirts as well

Squaredance · 18/01/2011 20:27

Pan, Pascoe what would you say is the male equivalent, sexually speaking, of legs/boobs/bum? Legs/moobs/bollocks? Confused Let's say a guy turned up showing the equivalent. I would have the same type of opinion towards a man regarding sexy dressing in the office so put your own judgy feminism sneer making out that those who don't want to see legs/boobs/moobs/bum/bollocks etc in an office environment are somehow not of the sisterhood, and your references to Germaine Greer (come on, is there not a more modern-day feminist you can namecheck??!?!?!) back in your pipe and smoke it and I don't want to hear smart remarks about not smoking either.

Grin
Pan · 18/01/2011 20:30

trouble is square, there isn't a 'male equivalent - men and women are not just different sides of the same coin.

so put that in your horn and blow it. Smile

Pan · 18/01/2011 20:32

< never been accused of having a 'feminist sneer', as a bloke, but thank you anyway>

Saltatrix · 18/01/2011 20:36

Male equivalent of sexy dressing? that would be a slightly muscular guy, in a form fitting clothes.

focus areas chest/bum/face and arms (height helps too)

Women also have their forms of eye candy it's just a different to what guys like.

QuintessentialShadows · 18/01/2011 20:36

It was a very hot day in the office, and ALL the men undressed. They hung their suits, shirts and ties up, and were working only dressed in their boxer shorts, and socks.

We were only 3 women, to more than 17 men. It all started in "sales". They said as they were all in and out meeting clients, so they could not be stinking of sweat.

The Technical department all followed suit, all aside from John, who spent his day cooling off in the server room.

Honestly, I did not know where to look, thanks to the corporate gym membership. Confused

AnyFucker · 18/01/2011 20:38

I don't even work in an office Grin

Squaredance · 18/01/2011 20:54

But Pan. Why is there not the "male equivalent"? Hmm? How is it that women have body parts and men have body parts yet there is no equivalent to the sexuality of women's body parts, in our society, for a man? Confused

So women can be judged on showing off boobs/bum/legs but there is (in your opinion) no male equivalent? That's inequality for you, forget the feminism!!! How have men managed to escape the over sexualising of their legs, for example, or their moobs? Yet women can be judged on theirs? Sitting pretty, aintcha?!

I know for a fact I would feel the same Hmm way if a man turned up in "sexy dress" or an outfit commonly more seen in a nightclub to the office, as much as if a woman did.

Put that in your Ipod and play it!

unhappyshopper · 18/01/2011 20:59

A woman can look sexy and classy in the office without looking like a slapper on blackpool promenade..

There isnt really a male equivalent in the office.

tinkgirl · 18/01/2011 21:02

Quaint - lol Grin

And I hold my hands up to the heavens and shout a very loud thanks to those above for air conditioning in our office. Our place is more Jim Royale than Daniel Craig. Smile

However, what I am saying is I really, really, really don't want to go into work and well see my colleagues fanjango's on display. I appreciate that they have the right to wear what they want, but surely I have the right not to witness what I did when the were putting paper in the photocopier.

unhappy - you are right, a woman can look sexy and classy and she can also look like a slapper if she so chooses but when you work for a professional organisation, surely you should dress appropriately.

I like to look nice when I am going to work, but I also like to feel comfortable, and I won't be able to if a skirt is up my bum.

There are girls in the office who wear very tight short dresses and I just think good luck to them, only problem with that is they never look any different.

At least if I am going out on a night out and I wear clothes like that or put make up on I actually feel different.I could not wear clothes like that to work.

superv1xen · 18/01/2011 21:11

anyfucker yeah i was a right mare LOL Blush

Oblomov - snap with PWC. They must have a mold which they use to produce them.

HelenLG · 18/01/2011 21:23

My collegue is blond and tiny...She were a tight pencil skirt to work at least once a week...

I take a 'small' amount of glee from the fact that the stitching is now coming undone at the back where the split is...

Suncottage · 18/01/2011 21:23

I wear black mid calf length boots with a just above knee skirt but always wear opaque tights and a polo neck jumper.

Or I wear a low cleavage with a long skirt.

Never wear a low cleaveage and a short skirt and make sure your bra is not on show.

I find that works for me.

Mumcentreplus · 18/01/2011 21:34

Bluddy hell when I think about it we have some pretty sexy dressing guys..tight t-shirts,polos,jumpers,cardis...crotch hugging pants..definate 'at least' 6 packs.......surely thats allowed...they are early twenties??..> Grin

Pan · 18/01/2011 21:36

suncottage - Iwas about to post what is sexy in an understated way, and that is nearly it!! Lots of women, IMO can look sexy to a hetro man without lots of flesh on display at all.

square - i "ain't sittin' pretty" as I am not doing the judging. You and a lot of the posters are taking that smug position.

Why is it different? Societal pressures for men and women are different, and certainly the willingness and ability to judge them. But this is no doubt feminsita clap trap to you so I'll stop there.

Put that in your saucepan and boil it.Smile

MissBeehiving · 18/01/2011 21:43

Mumcentreplus - any vacancies at your employers? Grin

Oblomov · 18/01/2011 21:50

MissBee, agreed.
x-posted with squaredance. agreed with her post.
these young girls that wear spray on pencil skirts and really tight fitted tops.
Just not appropriate. they have lovely figure, young and pretty, but don't need to wear this, in order to show it off.

Mumcentreplus · 18/01/2011 21:53

hehehe@MissBee well you never know the way things are going?!!...

sexy civil servants who knew? Grin..not a sandal and sock combo/christmas jumper in sight,

but much of the eye candy will be gone soon Sad

A1980 · 18/01/2011 21:55

YANBU

One of my colleagues comes to work in plunging necklines, short skirts, nothing is left to the imagination. She has this dress that has no sleeves, is cut down so low you can almost see her bra and is so short that if she leans over the photocopier you'll see her pants. She wears it now and wore it when there was snow on the ground.

The heating is permanently on 28 because she's so cold. I eventually snapped and told her I'd be cold if i came to work dressed like that in winter and remarked that she should dress for the weather. Silly cow.

FabbyChic · 18/01/2011 21:56

I think there should be an office dress code, smart, suits, trousers and shirts.

Or skirts, tights and blouses, there really is no need to wear inappropriate clothing, the worst is someone wearing jeans. Cant abide it.

Mumcentreplus · 18/01/2011 21:57

I do think women are judged more harshly than men...

I think its quite cute to see a young girl looking nicely dressed and having the confidence to rock looks i no longer do...it's their nature
