I really don't want to come into work and catch a glimpse of everything and I mean EVERYTHING when someone bends over to put paper in the photocopier. Lovely outfit for a night out but not the office.

am I being a prude?

I once went to a managers conference and the only other female manager wore a string vest and no bra.

If a male manager had turned up in his vest he would have been fired.

I thought she was giving women a bad name.

poolet · 18/01/2011 20:00

YANBU. I get distracted by cleavage in the office so god knows what the men think.

Pan · 18/01/2011 20:00

trhread reflects the responses women where I work usually get - it's from other women.

yes, the female form is fine and lots of leg is great, but the only managers ever to 'have words' were female ones - standards have to be maintained but some of the censoring is ridiculous.

As male manager wouldn't ordinarily dream of telling a woman what to wear, or not to, unless it was H&S issue.

Or from Boden.Grin

Mumcentreplus · 18/01/2011 20:01

WTF??? string vest???..bra-less?? Confused

Pan · 18/01/2011 20:03

I get more distracted by the clashing colour schemes, or shoes that just don't go with the outfit. Maybe I'm odd....

ViolaTricolor · 18/01/2011 20:06

I feel increasingly grateful that the worst offenders at my work are the shorts'n'socks'n'sandals men.

staranise · 18/01/2011 20:06

I remember being at a conference in the US and one of the delegates said to me that he knew I was European becasue my skirt was so short Blush.

You should always err on the side of caution for office work and that doesn't necessary mean being a frump anyway.

agree pascoe. Bit suprised at the tone around here. Or maybe not so.

Saltatrix · 18/01/2011 20:10

Often the men are unsure on what women are actually allowed to wear (womens dress code is way more laidback) so it's normally female managers who talk to those who have gone a bit too far.

Whenever guys go to far it's normally just funny socks n sandals.

Pan · 18/01/2011 20:11

nothing funny about sandals with socks salty.Smile

SV Grin

The thing is, I think the sexy dressers assume others are jealous of them (some may well be) but usually I've found that there is a dual attitude of an appreciation of a decent set of legs/boobs whatever but pity that the sexy dresser stands out for not being able to dress appropriately.

The really sexy dressers are annoying though. These are the slim, pretty youngsters who wear the very tight knee-length pencil skirts, fitted shirts that are unbuttoned just one button a bit lower than the average, but still decent, showing a hint of perky boobage without showing pushed together cleavage. And a killer pair of court shoes.

i.e

All standard office wear (shirt that covers cleavage, knee length skirt, court shoes not stripper shoes) but the sexy version of the standard wear. Now THAT is what I was Envy Envy Envy of in past offices grrrrrrrrrr grrrrrrrrr not the stripper shoe, strappy top and and thong on show brigade. and THAT is what all the men were drooooling over without patronising or ridiculing.

PatPending · 18/01/2011 20:12

Depends on the setting a bit - I really believe that fellow young (and even not so young!!) female teachers (in secondary at least!) need to be aware of raging teen hormones and dress appropriately.
Have seen some howlers such as very short skirts and low cut tops.
Not appropriate if even your colleagues have to avert eyes never mind your teenage male pupils!

Oblomov · 18/01/2011 20:13

We have PWC in auditing us. These young girls, every year, often very beautiful. Figures to DIE for. I was admiring one of them today. She's probably 24 or so.
Lovely lovely figure.
She didn't have anything on show as such. She had black thigh stilleto boots ( of which I have a similar pair that I wore to work twice, but with more more toned down clothes), her skirt met the boots( so not alot of leg on show), very figuring hugging black top.But it was all as if it had been sprayed on. They are all the same, year after year. And I can't can't quite accept that its right. I know they are very bright. One of them is now the audit manager. BUT .......

AnyFucker · 18/01/2011 20:15

well, you don't see too many bollocks hanging out in the office

but lots of boobs and bum

it usually falls to female managers to have a word because men are crap at it, usually Grin

I did used to work with a bloke though who constanly "forgot" to do his flies up and sported a jaunty wet patch on his return from a toilet break

guess who had to "have a word" ?

all the male managers were too squeamish/scared/embarassed/pussy about it

PatPending · 18/01/2011 20:17

Oh I hate the bum thing with a vengeance - but it's usually the female pupils displaying it Shock

PatPending · 18/01/2011 20:18

Shock at AnyFucker - wet patch!!!

AnyFucker · 18/01/2011 20:19

I kid you not

it's a bit much when you have to remind a 35 yo to "give it a shake, fgs" Grin

Saltatrix · 18/01/2011 20:19

oh no I wasn't laughing with them pan I was laughing at them.

DorothyThompson · 18/01/2011 20:20

An ex-colleague of mine once stripped down to her bra and knickers (they didn't match) on a very hot day. She reckoned it was ok as our male manager wasn't at work that day... She also left the office door open to ensure a through breeze from the window...

Mumcentreplus · 18/01/2011 20:21

cackles@ wet patch...he would be destroyed in my office

PatPending · 18/01/2011 20:21

"give it a shake" - LOL.
Take my hat off to you AnyFucker - I would have creased up laughing and squirming and been unable to function!!
