To think that people should get dressed to do the school run?

I was quite sort of Hmm when I saw the mother of a friend of my dd's in reception dropping off at school in her pj's this morning. Is it really that difficult to get dressed in time? Maybe I'm not normal, you know getting clothes on to leave the house Grin.

It bothers me because the message it sends to the dc (who would quite frankly spend all day in their pj's given half a chance). Lazy I guess but I agree, I probably wouldn't care if they were in an iggle piggle costume!!

YANBU... it's fairly basic civilised behaviour, the whole idea of getting dressed in the morning.

seeker · 18/01/2011 09:43

And the difference between pyjama bottoms and trachsuit bottoms is?

Chil you've come up with the phrase I couldn't think of, thank you.

It is basic civilised behaviour.

seeker in this case the difference was quite a lot.

yawn there is already a thread to this effect...

BettyCash · 18/01/2011 09:44

YANBU. Total loss of self-respect not to get dressed - no wonder people build a stereotype of SAHM based on a few lazy ladies.

FantasticDay · 18/01/2011 09:45

Never done it myself, but can't really see the problem with other people doing it. My mum did occasionally, because she was a bar worker who didn't get home until very late and was never really an early riser. My dd's best mate's mum works nights in a care home. If she got up for half an hour to take the littlun to school then went back to bed that would be fine in my opinion.

TrillianAstra · 18/01/2011 09:46

This is why everyone should get black or dark blue/grey pyjama bottoms - with a coat on top no-one will know what you are wearing your pjs and not tracksuit bottoms.

cobbledtogether · 18/01/2011 09:46

If I gave it a thought, I'd suspect they'd had a really difficult morning and just wanted to get their dd to school on time. Having said that, I've got better things to worry about.

MackerelOfFact · 18/01/2011 09:54

Not a real problem if they're not getting out the car, but fairly gross really if they're walking or using public transport. Surely your PJs are going to get dirty and smelly wearing them outside and you're not going to want to go back to bed in them anyway, plus if someone hasn't bothered to get dressed then presumably they also haven't bothered to brush their teeth or hair, or apply deodorant.

Each to their own, but how long does it really take to throw on yesterdays jeans and a coat?

kreecherlivesupstairs · 18/01/2011 09:56

Oh shit, I've a total loss of self respect then. I must look a treat, red nightdress, knee length brown boots and a brown coat on top.
Lucky nobody actually sees me as I don't get out of the car.

seeker · 18/01/2011 09:57

OK - which is grosser? Pyjamas that have been worn for one night and will go in the washing basket as soon as the person gets home to have a shower or "yesterday"s jeans"?

TrillianAstra · 18/01/2011 09:59

Oh yes, let's have a thread on how often you wash your pyjamas/jeans, that'll be fun.

Boobalina · 18/01/2011 10:00

I saw a lady in Focus DIY in sunday in her pjs - white ones with stars all over, cheap Ugg knock off's and a puffa jacket - it was 2pm?!!!

Luckily for me I sleep in Trackies...

jonicomelately · 18/01/2011 10:02

I think the pjs are far grosser.

mangoandlime · 18/01/2011 10:03

I can't even believe people are defending wearing pyjamas on the school run. It's slovenly behaviour.

Not if you drive, though. If you're doing a quick drop off that's different - but actually going out on the streets - no way.

When did this even become remotely acceptable?

seeker · 18/01/2011 10:05

If I get dressed when I get up I don't change my pyjamas every day. If I wear them to do housework, do soem work, do the school run or whatever, I wear them until I get dressed and then put them in the wash.

Why are clothes worn in bed grosser than jeans worn to clean out the guinea pig cage and cook a curry?

sazm · 18/01/2011 10:05

my sister once went to pick her hubby up from a night out at 3am,she had been sleeping and got up to go get him, went in her pyjamas, and yep - the car broken down!! she had to walk around the town at 3am in her pyjamas to find a phone!!

hence why i never have attempted the school run in my pyjamas for any reason!!

TrillianAstra · 18/01/2011 10:05

What's going to happen though mango? Other than offending your eyes with their teddy-bear patterns?

TrinityMotherOfRhinos · 18/01/2011 10:06

I wear my jammie bottoms but I dont wear them in bed

they are just more of my trousers

they have much cooler colours and patterns
