To think that people should get dressed to do the school run?

I was quite sort of Hmm when I saw the mother of a friend of my dd's in reception dropping off at school in her pj's this morning. Is it really that difficult to get dressed in time? Maybe I'm not normal, you know getting clothes on to leave the house Grin.

I can't contemplate the school run without a full face of make-up so, to me, PJ's is just mad!!

mangoandlime · 18/01/2011 10:07

It's about respect and appropriate behaviour - It's for the same reason you don't wear your bikini top out and about and men don't go bear chested on the high street.

mangoandlime · 18/01/2011 10:08

bare - of course!

jaggythistle · 18/01/2011 10:11

I don't even go out to the bin in my pjs, I stick on some sort of clothing and a fleece or jumper.

Maybe I am weird too.

Wouldn't really want all and sundry seeing me in my pjs.

Butterbur · 18/01/2011 10:11

Bear chested! Grin

mangoandlime · 18/01/2011 10:12

And I can't even blame that one on iPhone failure!

seeker · 18/01/2011 10:12

So it's OK if they don't look like pyjama bottoms?

TrillianAstra · 18/01/2011 10:14

Practically there is no difference between tracksuit bottoms and pyjama bottoms.

So the only reason people are getting upset/offended is because they look like pyjama bottoms.

Get some pyjamas that don't look like pyjamas and everyone is happy. You can wear your pyjamas, they won't be upset by it because they won't know.

(not that I would actually go further than the garage or putting the bin out in pyjamas, but if I were a sleep-deprived mum who knows)

Deciduousblonde · 18/01/2011 10:15

I must be weird.

I would rather do the school run (in a car, of course) in my PJ bottoms and make-up than only have time to get dressed and have no make-up on.

I bet I am the talk of the playgound!

fedupofnamechanging · 18/01/2011 10:16

I don't see what wearing pjs has got to do with respect. I often spend the day in my pjs, if I don't have to go out. I'm not dirty or slovenly. I have a shower, wash my hair and then get clean ones on. If I've been out, the first thing I do when I get home is lose my bra and put something comfy on. I'm happy for my DC to do the same (they too are clean and not lazy).

I do get dressed if I'm going out, or if I have people coming round, because I've never given it any thought not to, but can't see it being a problem if I didn't, so long as I am not in Tesco in a see through negligee

mangoandlime · 18/01/2011 10:21

Everyone has a PJ day once in a blue moon - I don't see anyone saying there's anything wrong witb that, Karmabeliever.

new2cm · 18/01/2011 10:23

You are being reasonable to think that people should get dressed to do the school run.

Parents and their child(ren) should be dressed appropriately for the weather and circumstance. PJs are for night-time and people who are ill/convalesing in bed.

The only time it could be considered appropriate during day-time IMO would be in the case of charity fundraising events.

jendifa · 18/01/2011 10:28

Trackie bottoms are made of a different material surely? More stretchy/less soft.

I don't wear pants with pyjamas so it would be slightly more odd to go out in them.

mamatomany · 18/01/2011 10:32

It's about respect and appropriate behaviour

Blimey they've done a good job on you haven't they lol

seeker · 18/01/2011 10:33

I do think it's funny that people judge so much on appearances! I quite often put boots and a coat over my pyjamas to take children to school because I hate putting clean clothes on an unshowered body and we don't have enough hot water for everyone to have a shower before school.

I think getting dressed before having a shower is gross1

HowAnnoying · 18/01/2011 10:34

who the hell is being disrespected by someone dropping their kids of in pjs? Confused

maybe she was really ill, and would be going straight home to bed. who knows, who cares?

CalamityKate · 18/01/2011 10:37

I wouldn't notice. When I drop the kids off I'm busily staring at the floor and avoiding people's eyes, hoping that if I can't see them they can't see me and won't notice that I haven't brushed my hair and have still got my slippers on.

There is one mum up at the school who wears a mini skirt & Jimmy Choos for the school run.

Now that can't be normal!

mangoandlime · 18/01/2011 10:41

mamatomany - Job? Dunno what you're on about really, but if wearing your jammys on the school run is now the acceptable norm, then it's a bit sad really.

The respect thing is for yourself and yeah, for other people - if that's such an awful thing to even think? Confused

Not so long ago women couldn't show their ankles in public, now we can wear what we like including PJ's hooray !

earwicga · 18/01/2011 11:11

Hahahahahaha!

One of the few bonuses of it getting cold is that I can wear a coat over my pyjamas :)

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 18/01/2011 11:22

You see it's threads like these that make me need to go and do the school run/shopping in my pjs just to irritate all the judgy mcjudgers.

Who gives a damn, there are far more impotant things to worry about and how on earth are pjs offensive?

unhappyshopper · 18/01/2011 11:26

I just dont understand it. How long does it actually take to put on a pair of trousers and a jumper.. less than a minute.

Would you think it ok if the teachers came into school dressed in their pyjamas?

Would you think it normal to go to the doctors and have your GP sat there in a pair of fluffy pj's?

I would associate people who wander the street in their nightwear with patients from a psychiatric ward who have gone on a little walkabout.
