Selling off school uniform

Wasn't sure where this should go but I have had a notice on Gumtree for a few weeks selling DDs old school uniform (off to uni now) which was a private school (blazer, past the knee pleated skirt etc.). I just had my first request for it by someone claiming to want it as fancy dress for a hen night coming up. This made me a little uncomfortable in more ways than one as firstly I was hoping someone would buy it for another girl at DDs old school. Secondly the thought of someone wearing a genuine schoolgirl uniform to a hen night is at best a little odd, if not pervy to me. Costume uniforms are usually obviously different to the real thing. Is it unreasonable to refuse this?

Perhaps I should just hand the uniform into the school to be sure it goes into the correct hands. Or should I just not care and take the money?

If it feels uncomfortable then don't do it! Does the school not have a system where parents can sell on the uniform rather than donate? It's not cheap I'll bet.

Crikey it's not that out there is it, wearing a school uniform to a hen do!

I'd take the money if it's the only offer on the table.

mutznutz · 17/01/2011 22:17

I don't think it's that odd to wear it to a hen do.

Thanks. Maybe I am worrying unnecessarily. Just the fact it is a private school uniform and clearly recognised as such, not a typical short skirt and untidy blouse/tie one. I already know school uniforms are worn to hen dos.

List it on eBay so if someone is looking for it they will find it.

Urgh I detest the dressing up as a child
to be attractive to a man thing.

I wouldn't sell it for a hen do. I'm sure you'll have more
luck selling it in the summer (ie before new starters in Sep).

Save it for when she wants it for fancy dress at uni or for a hen do- or if she becomes a teacher for own clothes day when staff wear assorted uniforms.

Sanesometimes1 · 17/01/2011 23:34

Think I would feel uncomfortable with this as well - if your not desperate for the money then don't sell it now - go with knownothing;s suggestion and keep it till the start of new school term

I don't think the school would like it, to be honest.

I would sell it at the school.

mamatomany · 17/01/2011 23:46

Doesn't the school have a second hand shop ?
