To want an upstairs and a downstairs hoover?

MogTheForgetfulCat · 17/01/2011 19:57

I'm not going to, obviously - have better things to spend £200 on than an upstairs Dyson (I do like a Dyson...), like food shopping, bills and shoes for the growing DCs.

But AIBU to want an upstairs hoover, rather than having to lug ours upstairs? Have half convinced myself that if I had one, I would do more cleaning. Bus suspect this is untrue.

Can I point out, in my defence, that I am 37 weeks pregnant, and therefore experiencing slightly more difficulty getting the hoover upstairs than usual. Does that make me any less of a lazy cow ? Grin

I covet a roomba.

I also covet the equivalent of a roomba in the garden for grass cutting (i swear it exists and I didn't dream it)

SugarSkyHigh · 17/01/2011 21:17

I have a Henry downstairs and a Hetty upstairs. Henry hoovers halfway up the stairs and hetty half way down Grin

Figgyrolls · 17/01/2011 21:25

Oh I want a roomba - to sweep up small children and herd them the crumbs dd drops.

chocolateshoes · 17/01/2011 21:32

is that Tescos cheapie one any good? Am so seriously temppted to get one. We have 3 floors & I hate lugging my Henry up & down. I really might do a better job at keeping the place clean if I had a second one. Hmmmm

SarahStrattonsBaubles · 17/01/2011 21:34

I also covet a roomba. No I covet a roomba for each floor. I hate hoovering. Actually someone needs to invent a laundry roomba and then my life will be complete Grin

Figgyrolls · 17/01/2011 22:37

chocolate - no idea but it can't be any worse than not having a hoover upstairs! And doing bugger all, would imagine its noisy and does a slightly pathetic job but is better than nought. Nearly purchased one but decided it would be worth getting the dyson looked at for £60 Hmm didn't have it done yet as could get 3 hoovers for one service!

starfishmummy · 17/01/2011 22:44

I have a small hoover upstairs (a proper one not a hand held thingy) and a dyson downstairs. Except the upstairs one needs to be repaired at the moment so last week I had to carry the dyson up; and I remembered why I need another upstairs!

JarethTheGoblinKing · 17/01/2011 22:59

aww, Sarah Stratton.. my ex flatmate had a roomba for each floor, it was bliss.

Was also confusing on a Sunday morning when it was stranded on the top stair, but hey - neither of us ever had to hoover..

happy days :)

seb1 · 17/01/2011 23:06

I've got an upstairs one, a downstairs one and one for doing the stairs. Hmm Just thought I would share that Grin

gomummygo · 17/01/2011 23:15

YANBU. I have two, plus a Roomba. Blush OK, and a handheld. Blush

Jareth you didn't imagine it, there is a robotic lawnmower that is sort of Roomba-like.

These days I covet a Scooba.

Buda · 18/01/2011 08:38

gomummygo - I would like a Scooba too. Not sure DH will go for it though. He was sceptical enough about the Roomba.

BertieBotts · 18/01/2011 08:57

the upstairs carpets don't need quite such intense cleaning so we can vacuum weekly

Weekly is infrequent? Oh dear

tyzer2001 · 18/01/2011 08:57

We have two - I broke the baseplate on the 'general' one so bought a new one (Tescos, Vax, £40 ;) ) and then discovered that taking off the broken baseplate didn't make any difference to the hoovers performance so kept it for upstairs.

I use the downstairs one to do the actual stairs, as it has a longer hose, so I don;t have to carry the actual hoover up at all - but I leave the top two stairs and the landing and do those with the upstairs one!

And finally, some twat kind friend bought me one of those mini desk Hettys for Christmas '09. She really bigged it up beforehand as well - " I've got you the best gift, you're going to love it". I was singularly underwhelmed - you can't see the surface of my desk much less hoover it. But my other friends 3yo DD loved it so I gave it to her!

HonestyBox · 18/01/2011 09:08

YANBU, I hate lugging Henry up and down the stairs. The damn cord rewind doesn't work anymore so the length of wire flaps around my feet threatening to murder me on the way up or down. Oh, and said cord doesn't stretch to the top of the stairs so to hoover the stairs I have to go 2/3 of the way up then back down with the hoover, unplug it and then carry the beast upstairs, plug in and back down to where I was hoovering. Not to mention balancing a Henry on one step whilst hoovering and wedging him in with my thighs. I feel very hard done by.

Cambington · 18/01/2011 17:23

Good idea, but only if I can have two washing machines...

motheroftwoboys · 18/01/2011 17:39

I have this fab one for the stairs

www.lakeland.co.uk/hand-held-turbo-vac/F/keyword/vacuum+cleaner/product/1441

and a Sebo for the rest of the house. Just new. Love it. Suppose will have to try lugging it upstairs one of these days. Last but one half dead Miele is in the cellar where DH uses it for car. Last dead Miele is still probably in cellar where DH will refuse to throw out and keep incase it "comes in". Aargh.Wink

petitdonkey · 18/01/2011 17:45

I was just about to post on this thread totally forgetting that I have a Roomba Blush !!

I have an upright Dyson upstairs which is great on carpets and a Miele cylinder one downstairs which is mainly hard floors.

(I have also just posted on another thread about vacuum cleaners; perhaps i need help??)

SarahStrattonsBaubles · 18/01/2011 17:53

How can you forget you have a Roomba? Hmm

If you don't love it, I will give it a happy forever home

northernrock · 18/01/2011 17:55

I am over Dysons. You get covered in dust every time you empty them.
And the design is so...Nineties Grin

No. What you need (and I speak as a vacuum cleaner obsessive who has done hours of research) is a Sebo.

Aaaah. Beautiful, hard working and efficient. German engineering, clean lines.

Everytime I use mine it brings tears of joy to my eyes.

(Only slightly exaggerating)

thefurryone · 18/01/2011 18:06

YABU and even if you lived in a house the size of a stately home with 6 floors pretty lazy you won't be 37 weeks pregnant forever!

alemci · 18/01/2011 18:15

i have a vacuum upstairs and a lightweight vax downstairs. just find it easier then don't have to lug up and down stairs.

SarahStrattonsBaubles · 18/01/2011 18:20

This Sebo. What's it's suck like? Hmm

valiumredhead · 18/01/2011 18:22

I have an upstairs hoover and also one for downstairs - not very steady on my pins so don't want to lug one up and down the stairs. Very handy.

sunshine76 · 18/01/2011 18:29

We have a built in vacuum system (came with the house) which sounds fabulous but you still have to lug 10 foot of heavy vacuum hose around the house which is heavier than my old hoover. Two years after moving in I still prefer my little pull along one.

ilovemyhens · 18/01/2011 18:56

We have a dyson on all three floors Grin
