to give DD a yoghurt?

She will be 6 months in 8 days. Will 8 days make the world of difference? Been BLW for just over 2 weeks now and all going fine.

Sorry for mega dull post, but it's tea time and I need to know.

Yoghurt in question would be Yeo Valley Organic Little Yeos.

8 days will make no difference and she'll love them. Actually, I'm positive that my lot had them from 4 months onwards, but my youngest are nearly 12.

Yes. YABU. You must wait until she's 6 months old TO THE SECOND. If you do not - if an ATOM of yogurt touches her lips before she hits 6 months - she will disappear in a poof of smoke.

if you are doing BLW you find yoghurt eating v messy

I really don't think it would be a problem. Does she seem to want food? Try a little mouthful or maybe mix a bit with baby rice?
She will soon let you know if she is not ready I think!

No not PFB, but dd1 is now 6 and she was on solids from a lot younger due to medical reasons, so this is the first time I have actually had to follow the guidelines.

Jolly good, I shall crack open the yoghurts.

Idealy she wouldbe diary free untill 6 months but shes so close that I dont think it would make much diffrence. I would.

My dd is six months and loves yoghurts! Has been eating them since 4 months, especially good when her gums are hurting because they are nice and cold

Oh My God. Well, administered said yoghurt (actually dd insisted on feeding herself - all fine except when the spoon was empty she kept trying to put the pot in her mouth which amused me).

I had quite forgotten how much havoc a small child can wreak with a yoghurt. Plastered the highchair, her entire body including her eyes, the floor, the walls and my hair as she grabbed it with her little yoghurty paws as I bent down to try and mop some up.

But yes, I think it's safe to say she loved it!

See this is why I get Hmm when people are totally ABSOLUTELY NOT about weaning before 6 months because there are "safe" foods and "unsafe" foods so not all "early weaners" are in the same boat, so to speak.

Technically, before they are 6 months old they should not have protein, including lentils and that kinda shyte, dairy (yes, milk is dairy, but formula milk is adapted, and cows milk is not recommended for under 1's as a drink so that's a moot point) or...well that's the main thing, is that you stick to grains fruit and veg.

So yogurt (which is protein AND dairy) is technically a no-no

Oh yeah and eggs is apparently 9 months

BUT

I dont think 8 days really makes a big difference to be honest. Do you have any dairy allergies in your family?

In light of the recent new discussions on this I would just say to hell with it and feed her a peanut brittle sundae with lashings of honey and eggs and um prawns or something because its all a pile of pantaloonies.

Go for it. Yoghurt is a saviour. DS was having them from 4 months and is perfectly well.

Grin I think you could be right. She had an absolute episode at lunch today because she wanted my yorkshire pudding, so I gave her half of it and she polished that off, so there goes the no eggs thing. Still alive!

Oh I knew there was something else - wheat - they are not supposed to have wheat before 6 months.

So if she's had a yorkshire she may as well have a yoggy.

I think its all a bit arbitary to be honest and I really dont think a few days makes a difference but its possible that a few weeks would.

Iwould go for the Plum baby or Rachel's Organic ones - they are sweetened with fruit juice rather than sugar. They are a little more expensive but I think it is worth paying that little bit extra.

Or just adding fruit to natural yoghurt then...natural and cheap! Although I bet baby doesn't like it as much as a yummy, sugar laden petit filous...Grin

Little Yeos are sugar free. I know, because about the only thing I am PFB about is the sugar intake of my, erm, PFB.

Shame his father stuffed him with madeira cake earlier... Wink

But YANBU OP, 8 days won't make a difference. Enjoy the clean up.

just noticed that the small pots of little yeos are sugar free (the 55g ones) but the larger pots of little yeos contain added sugar!
