From a piercing is not a dimple?

My son says im unreasonable to laugh at the photos and comments of one of my nieces put on fb in an album titled Dimples.

It's not the pics that make me laugh, more the emphassis on the (dimple) thing.

As far as im aware a dimple is natural and this dent has only been there since the piercing, (it got infected so was removed after a week) varius close up pictures of her sideways smiling, some taken in a mirror so the "dimple looks like its on each side.

He says im mean to laugh but im not laughing so much at her, but more at the people who have commented "I love your dimples" or amazing Dimples, when there are hundreds of other photos where it is clearly obvious she does not have dimples,

How strange. Why does it matter so much to you?

LadyOfTheManor · 15/01/2011 14:24

YANBU and she is vain.

Aren't dimples caused by parents making love while pregnant? Wink

stillbobbysgirl · 15/01/2011 14:25

its all cheryl coles fault

GlynistheMenace · 15/01/2011 14:26

i think YABU to laugh at it.

The girl has a scar left by a piercing, that's not funny is it?

But then again I'm in a really shitty mood today and BU at EVERTHING.

I still think YABU.

BluTac · 15/01/2011 14:26

I don't understand why you care. And you do sound mean, like you're glad she's been scarred by the piercing. Why shouldn't she want to be positive about it?

LadyOfTheManor · 15/01/2011 14:29

Well she isn't being "positive" about a piercing, she's saying it's a "dimple". Which is lying.

usualsuspect · 15/01/2011 14:31

Does it matter?

BluTac · 15/01/2011 14:32

I'm saying that she may want to be positive about being scarred by a piercing. Surely that's her prerogative?

spring2011 · 15/01/2011 14:34

I was not laughing at her, I was laughing at the comments, and the way the photos have been taken as though this is on both cheeks,

Of course im not glad she's been scarred, She is an adult and knew the risks when she had it done, I think it looks better now than when the piercing was in,

I just don't see the point in trying to pass it off as a dimple, why not be honest and say it was a piercing.

Hold the Front Page

lies on internet shocker!!

dimple is in fact SCAR!!!

told ya i was in a shitty mood Wink

BluTac · 15/01/2011 14:36

Well she probably feels self concious about it. Is that so hard to understand?

CabbagefromaBaby · 15/01/2011 14:42

Like, everyone has a dimpleon each cheek...how on earth does that make a difference? I only have one, and yes it is genuine. So the photos from both sides thing is just meaningless.

I suggest you leave facebook to the children ( unless you are actually a child?)

SummerRain · 15/01/2011 14:42

ds1 has a dimple on his cheek.

It's actually a scar from when he clawed a chunk out of his face as a newborn but only appears when he smiles and looks for all the world like a dimple.

He also has a dimple at the base of his spine where his spine didn't close up as well as it should have (familial history of spina bifida and not knowing I was pregnant until past the point at which folic acid would have helped)

As far as I'm aware the word 'dimple' simply means 'small depression' so a scar which leaves a small depression in the skin is validly called a dimple

spring2011 · 15/01/2011 14:43

Yes she probably does feel self concious about it but surely she is bringing more attention to it by posting a whole album about it.

Some of the pics are face on and in those you can clearly see its only on one side,

I just don't understand why an adult (25) would try to pass this off as dimples when it clearly isn't,

There is no shame in being honest and if people ask just explain that it was from a piercing,

OP posts:
GlynistheMenace · 15/01/2011 14:45

yes, dimples ae not exclusively natural

the little marks on golf balls are called 'dimples' aren't they?

i'm sure they pay little men to hammer them in when the golf balls are just ripe enugh to pick

GlynistheMenace · 15/01/2011 14:46

sorry for typos in last post, it was time to play 'Elefun' and I was hurrying Grin

BluTac · 15/01/2011 14:46

Go on, let her call it a dimple. It's her face. Why do you care so much?

CabbagefromaBaby · 15/01/2011 14:49

LOL at Glynis.

Spring, I have only ONE dimple on ONE side.

It's completely natural and no one hit me with a hammer or anything. It's always been there.

You don't need two to pass the natural test.

spring2011 · 15/01/2011 14:54

Ok maybe Iabu

I always thought that dimples were something you were born with,

She is a beautiful young woman, with or without the dimple but as for leaving fb to the children, I am not that many years older than her and I know of many adults much older than me who go on there.

OP posts:
CabbagefromaBaby · 15/01/2011 14:59

I know spring, sadly fb is ubiquitous but it's pants and life is so much nicer without it.

spring2011 · 15/01/2011 15:10

Actually I take that back, I dont think iwbu,

Just logged on and the first thing i see is her new status which says,

"cant wait to get both my cheeks pierced this summer!!"

I give up!!

OP posts:
SummerRain · 15/01/2011 16:09

what's wrong with that? She's an adult and she enjoys piercings.... who cares how many she shoves in her face.

Believe it or not there are those of us who think a face is more attractive with some metal in it Grin
