"breast is fucking best you cunts #whyarepeoplesothick #whyareheadlinessoshit #whyissophisticatedscientificadviceimpossible #fuckingfuck"

because it frustrates me so much that the bmj article (which didn't for a second question that weaning alongside breastfeeding was the best option if it was possible) has been interpreted by the sun et al as breastfeeding is not best.

fuckers.

TCOB · 14/01/2011 21:36

BTW isn't it cool that DHs/ DPs are pissed off too? DH just came in and said something really beautiful about my breasts being the centre of the family [tragically pleased emoticon].

Heathcliffscathy · 14/01/2011 21:36

oh charlies. sorry i've made you give me a biscuit.

but i feel like i do when i was working in PR and realised that they just copy and paste and don't think and CAN WE PLEASE JUST HAVE SOME JOURNALISM PLEASE?

Bogeyface · 14/01/2011 21:38

Yes you are BVU.

The second you lower yourself to that kind of rubbish then you are worse than the people you are pissed off at.

Heathcliffscathy · 14/01/2011 21:38

TCOB, I was discussing this with dh tonight:

there is something deeply deeply interesting about the kneejerk antipathy to breastfeeding out there.

it's all very dodgy in an oedipal way i reckon.

threat of recognition of the primacy of the creative power of the mother.

it's global corps vs humanity really.

Heathcliffscathy · 14/01/2011 21:38

oh bogeys. don't you like swearing?

i LOVE swearing.

give me a good anglosaxon word any day of the week!

YABU. Breast is the most nutriticous option. It is not necessarily the best feeding option for mother and child.

toddlerwrangler · 14/01/2011 21:43

Had wine. Can't spell.

theevildead2 · 14/01/2011 21:46

TCOB ANd you haven't even got kids right? Grin

Heathcliffscathy · 14/01/2011 21:46

oh come on!

of COURSE it goes without saying that if you can't or won't breastfeed that is just absolutely fine!

but
but
but

nutritionally it is the appropriate food for babies. doesn't mean your a bad mum if you don't (christ knows there is a LOT more to parenting then feeding fgs). but it is.

so for the newspapers (including the independent god forgive them) to interpret this latest bmj article as an attack on breastfeeding (which it isn't, it's positing that the weaning guidelines may be questionable, a totally different debate) is irresponsible, sensationalist and just totally totally fucking shit.

imo.

OP posts:
Heathcliffscathy · 14/01/2011 21:47

oh christ: you're not your.

sorry sorry

OP posts:
Anymajordude · 14/01/2011 21:48

It annoyed me too. Haven't read the BMJ research but I'm sure the media have got the message round their arses as usual and are printing headline grabbing knee jerk shit.

Ignore and carry on.

TCOB · 14/01/2011 21:50

Grin Evildead - he's probably just buttering me up as he hasn't had a go on them since DD was born. Last July.

I am a truly shit wife, I know...

PLEASE can we not let this turn into a BF/ EF debate. It isn't. It's about shitty journalism twisting facts yet again to make women feel shit.

Heathcliffscathy · 14/01/2011 21:51

absolutely TCOB

OP posts:
toddlerwrangler · 14/01/2011 21:51

But you said '"breast is fucking best you cunts #whyarepeoplesothick'

A secondary, later reference to headlines or not, these lines suggest people wo dont utomaticlly follow the 'breast is best' approach is:

i) A cunt
ii) thick

Hence, YABU, IMHO.

toddlerwrangler · 14/01/2011 21:52

Sorry. Wine. Posting/typing/spelling not good!

NonnoMum · 14/01/2011 21:57

Thank goodness these guidelines have come out. Not a moment too soon.

Yes, BREAST is best for the first few months, but not necessarily for six. All intelligent women could read between the lies in the WHO guidelines that breastfeeding was preferable to making up weaning food in countries where sanitation was a problem, but really, how many frantic mothers and babies have tried to go for the whole six months only for their exclusively breastfed babies to be ravenous?

We all knew that our babies were hungry and that a little bit of banana at 4 or 5 months wasn't going to ruin the beauty of breastfeeding.

Heathcliffscathy · 14/01/2011 21:59

it was in response to 'breast is not best' headlines!

the 'thick' was to the journos. tbh, that was inappropriate as manipulative gits would be a better response.

OP posts:
Heathcliffscathy · 14/01/2011 21:59

but nonnomum that isn't what the headlines are saying is it? they are saying that breastfeeding might harm your baby (WHICH IS THE OPPOSITE OF THE TRUTH!)

total and utter bolleaux. how do they sleep?

oh yeah, they haven't even read the bmj article.

OP posts:
ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 14/01/2011 22:12

i got to 7 months and ds was nowhere near ravenous. doesn't mean yours should have waited til then, but doesn't mean i was wrong to do so. they're all different.

and i do think breast is best for all six months, and even for longer. but that doesn't mean to say you can't supplement it before that stage. these new theories/guidlines whatever aren't saying to wean at the expense of BFing just that weaning can be done before 6 months alongside BFing.

weedle · 14/01/2011 22:15

Oh dear, the point is lost in the 'child who has just discovered naughty words' rant. Can't see why you're that bothered either tbh
