I thinking some breastfeeding mums are attention seeking weirdos who seen to need constant breasty attention and pats on the back for getting their baps out ??

Woohooo for you, you're getting your baps out in public and feeding your child, same as I did for two years, Without any hassle from anybody.Public or otherwise. The main difference being the whole world didn't have to keep being told about it.

I can just imagine them, sat as predominantly as possible, glaring over their babies head if somebody dares to even look in their direction...

And don't even get me STARTED on the competitive extended breastfeeders.....

NO ONE FUCKING CARES !

OK ?

binfull, I saw a woman like that once. It was in a children's animal farm type place. Summer, so pretty busy. She sat herself down right in the middle of a busy pathway and got her boobs out, both of them and let her child, at least 4 I reckon 'feed' whilst she chatted to someone It was like watching something bovine. Turned my stomach.

kittywise: why would this turn your stomach? It's totally natural! You are exactly the type I have been talking about!

Cleofartra · 14/01/2011 18:40

"but there's no need to be so smuggy smug smug".

I'm of the belief that when it comes to breastfeeding smugness is usuallyin the eye of the beholder.

"for those I feel like putting up a banner stating 'millions of babies are fine and thrive on formula food, it is an option"

Why would you want to waste energy on stating the bleeding obvious? Women KNOW ff is a viable option because the vast majority of babies in the UK over a few weeks are ff and are healthy. But they don't want to bottlefeed. Just like most mums who bottlefeed don't want to breastfeed.

"I just didn't think BF-ding was anything to particularly brag about, that's all. Should it be "

Have I missed something? Who was bragging?

nowonthepill · 14/01/2011 18:40

I don't think any women are like that LeQueen, i just think some manage it more discreetly than others. Depends how easily your baby latches on, what top you are wearing, how big your boobs are, etc! No one wants to sit half naked...do they?

kittywise · 14/01/2011 18:42

It turned my stomach because she was making a 'point'. She got both her boobs out, she let them hang out in full view of the public IN THE MIDDLE of a busy throughfare. Not on a bench or chair, on the floor in everyone's way. In the way of prams and busy crowds. This was not about feeding, her child was a least 4 years old, this was about exhibitionism. It's shit behaviour even if she hadn't got her tits out.

Are you sure her child didn't just want a feed? What point, exactly, would she be making? That she is proud to breastfeed. Why shouldn't she? Would you rather she went and sat in private perhaps in a toilet cubicle where her kid can feed next to the sanitary bin???

MmmCake · 14/01/2011 18:45

Yes, I know it states the obvious, but sadly a LOT of women who struggle, beat themselves up over it, have their underweight babies screaming with hunger because they aren't getting enough milk all because mum simply won't give up partly down to the attitude of breastfeeding nazis spouting bullshit !

Yawn. Troll, I suspect.

Cleofartra · 14/01/2011 18:47

"My friend BF so discretely that to this day MrQ insists he's never been there when she's been BF-ding. He's actually been in the same room several times, but she doesn't make a song and dance about it"

Utterly marvellous isn't it that most adult men/women have never seen what a baby looks like when they're breastfeeding. I mean - the horror of having to see a woman's nipple in a baby's mouth! Yuck!

Tens of thousands of mothers fucking up breastfeeding because they have no idea what to do (because they've never seen actually clearly seen it being done) is a price worth paying to spare the blushes of the general public, who really find bf a bit 'icky'.

MmmCake · 14/01/2011 18:51

And you don't have to half undress to breastfeed sucessfully, I hope nobodies seen what my food looks like in my mouth either.....because I eat nicely !! Wink

"all because mum simply won't give up"

Do you understand that there are women who really don't want to breastfeed? Then conversely do you understand that there are also women who really don't want to bottlefeed? Itdoesn't FEEL right to them. It's not what they want.

And most mums who are worried about their milk supply who are struggling to keep going with breastfeeding are knowledgeable enough to know that supply issues can usually be fixed by addressing breastfeeding problems, and that formula isn't the only answer.

Tell that to the babies taken into hospital with dehydration because 'mummy' stubbornly soldiers on, bit of hunger won't harm them will it ??
