......people should read their posts before sending? I am halfway down a thread and I read:

point not pint

lego not legislate

wally not willy

"bloody predictive text"

fuck not fark

dispose not depose

oops - must check spelling

By the time I read the correction I am waaaay past the mistake!! If you can't check it before you send it, don't correct afterwards!!

Was your post title done on purpose to make a point?

LadyThumb · 13/01/2011 12:51

Yep - sorry meant "to" !!!!!!

YABU. Threads can move quite quickly, and I'd rather read what people have to say rather than have people put off because they would get critizised for typos. I quite often don't even notice mistakes until someone has corrected themselves because I skim read things. As long as you can tell easily what someone is trying to say, I don't see the problem. I make those sort of mistakes quite often, but tbh, I cba to proof read everything I post. I'm not submitting an English essay, it's a post on a chat room.

ChessyEvans · 13/01/2011 13:03

I agree that there is no need to correct mistakes afterwards as long as the meaning of the post or point wasn't changed by the mistake. But I am funny about spelling and grammar and I think people sometimes want to make it clear that they do know how to spell something correctly and it was just a typo.

tomhardyismydh · 13/01/2011 13:03

Biscuit ha ha ha smug git, then go and make same mistake. and try to fob off as deliberate

researchinmotion · 13/01/2011 14:59

Haha love it when people who go on about typos make them too!

But I kind of do agree with the OP. When I joined MN I thought teh was an acronym as so many people made that typo. Grin

I can usually spot which mistakes have been made by predictive text. They're so... predictable.

Is it easy checking/editing text on a phone though? We don't all have the luxury, as I do, of Mumsnetting on a desktop PC with built-in spelling checker. And even I make occasional mistakes (yes folks, I am not quite absolutely perfect! A shock I know).

DaftApeth · 13/01/2011 15:37

So it is alright for you to write another post correcting your spelling mistake but not for others to do so?

TrillianAstra · 13/01/2011 15:39

Who are you the fukcing grammer police?

BurnAfterReading · 13/01/2011 15:49

I agree with Trillion :)

I've been waiting to type that for days lol
