...insist, without irony, that there's only one way to do certain things (i.e. THEIR way)?

I was reading an online recipe for choccy brownies and someone contributed a post saying in all seriousness that we Brits had the wrong idea because the ONLY way brownies should taste was, god, I don't know, crumbly instead of fudgy or summat. WTF? If they taste good, who cares?

Similarly a friend of mine once admonished me for drinking my Rooibos tea with milk, saying: "you're not supposed to drink it with milk!" Huh? Why should there be a rule for how to drink tea? And why should it matter to her how I drink it?

Actually, come to think of it these people always seem insistent about inconsequential things that really shouldn't matter to them in the slightest.

Bless.

softnstrong · 11/01/2011 22:03

Oh, you're not meant to feel sorry for them, you're meant to JUDGE them - fgs!

Spidermama · 11/01/2011 22:06

Rooibsch with soya milk is my favourite cuppa. I'll have it with cow if there's no soya.

YANBU in the least. These people are foolish asses stuck in their ways.

BitchingAroundTheClock · 11/01/2011 22:06

no - I'm serious you don't drink sodding Rooibos with milk - you just don't - it's as wrong as putting milk in a mug of camomile and honey tea!!!

(the rest I couldn't give two hoots about Grin)

GetOrfMoiLand · 11/01/2011 22:08

What the bloody hell are you lot on about re rooibos tea?

There IS only one way to eat scones - jam first, then cream, and NO butter.

Anything else is wrong.

But you can do whatever the hell you like with everything else.

wuggglemump · 11/01/2011 22:08

YANBU.
I get told on an almost daily basis that I drink Earl Grey tea wrong. Apparently it should be had with no milk, or sugar.
Hmm, well that's fine and dandy, but I hate it that way, so do fuck off and let me have my milk and sugar in peace.
'Else next time you'll wear it.
Get me?

I feel like Expat when I say things like thatGrin

I'm with GetOrf about the scones - that is the only way to eat them. Yum. Am tempted to go and make some.

Apart from that, YANBU. My Mum is like that and it is very annoying. Everytime I don't do something exactly the same way she would, I am WRONG.

well yes - getorfs way is best...........unless it's a cheese scone and then it's RANK with cream and jam

Habbibu · 11/01/2011 22:15

YANBU. No-one else makes bacon sandwiches like our family, even though it's splendid, but I don't go round trying to make it The Law.

Habbibu · 11/01/2011 22:17

Isn't the jam/cream first the cause of border wars between the Devonians and Cornish.

And what if you want scones, have the makings of scones but no cream?

Hassled · 11/01/2011 22:17

YANBU.
But then my way does usually turn out to be the right way. True fact.

sungirltan · 11/01/2011 22:17

herbie - my dh also has dishwasher ocd. but then he drinks red wine chilled with ice cubes so what would he know!?

BitchingAroundTheClock · 11/01/2011 22:18

Hab - you turn 'em into cheese scones and smother them with butter when they're still warm and fresh out of the oven

ChinaCup · 11/01/2011 22:20

I don't like milk so, on the rare occasions when I eat cereal, I put fruit juice on it. I know it's unusual, I know it's not on the kellogs advert but I like it and it's my mouth that has to taste it!

YANBU OP and thank you for that opportunity to rant.

onceamai · 11/01/2011 22:21

Blue and green should never be seen.

WimpleOfTheBallet · 11/01/2011 22:21

Habbibu...how do you make them then?

[waits with interest]

Habbibu · 11/01/2011 22:23

Don't think cheese-hating DH would thank you for that, Bitching. I tend to see scones as a vehicle for jam anyway.

China - is it nice? DH doesn't like milk either.

wuggglemump · 11/01/2011 22:23

Huh?
My way is best.
My way is always best.

I love being in charge in my homeGrin

Habbibu · 11/01/2011 22:25

The bacon sandwiches? Grill bacon. Butter bread, and then place slices butter side up under grill. Put bacon on grilled buttered side of bread and top with another sliced, grilled buttered side down. I've never come across anyone else who does this, but it's lovely.

Habbibu · 11/01/2011 22:25

slice, not sliced.

wuggglemump · 11/01/2011 22:27

Fruit juice on cereal?

Noooo, do you really eat that?
Does it not give you the urge to vomit raging diarrhoea?
