Sitting on a bench at swimming and someone and her mate came and sat to my left. I had someone to my right. The woman on my left kept edging closer and closer to me and was getting agitated at me being there, bumping me and making contact. The way I see it is, I was there first and she chose to sit there.

I would have given her an elbow.

I should add that the bench was the length of the pool - one long one with 2 more higher ones (like bleachers)

If there was nowhere else for then to sit then you ABU. I think the the courteous thing to do is to ask them if they would like to sit together.

She was being U though shoving into you. Rude.

shitmonster · 10/01/2011 19:23

I would have ( and have done) imperceptibly moved in her direction. You know, just spreading myself out a bit.Just like a man would Grin

saturdaynightpants · 10/01/2011 19:23

They were sitting together...it was another person on my right.

Ah right OP, your addition changes things. WEIRD that they sat around you and not together so you are not BU.

saturdaynightpants · 10/01/2011 19:24

Was there anywhere else for them to sit? How long was the bench?

I sat on a train recently, busy, packed train, and teh woman next to me hardly moved her bag and sort of twisted herself towards me to take up more space. Was that you?Wink

I think some people are just selfish and rude. When I DS was in hospital as a baby I took him down to the supposedly no-smoking calm garden. We went inot the middle next to the pond and say on a bench, no one else there. Then a woman complete with drip stand came and sat at the end of the bench and started smoking blowing it my and DS's way. She had walked past many empty benches. I dont know why I didnt say something to her

Takeresponsibility · 10/01/2011 19:43

I think I would have looked her in the eye, then down at where she was pressing against me and said "Sorry Love, I'm straight - you'll have to find someone-elses' lap to sit on"
