To dry my hair while my DH sleeps?

glitzy · 10/01/2011 11:37

I get up before him in the mornings, and like to wash, dry and straighten my hair before I go to work. Obviously the hair dryer is noisy and wakes him - causing some grunts, sometimes moans, and always an attempt to smother himself with a pillow. I have nowhere else I can dry my hair other than our bedroom. Should I leave him sleeping and go to work with wet hair, or wake him up with the racket?

Yes, buy a portable mirror or put a mirror in another room, I find it hard to believe you only have one mirror ....

LadyThumb · 10/01/2011 12:14

Buy a small free-standing mirror - YABU !!

auntyfash · 10/01/2011 12:15

Buy another mirror?

mutznutz · 10/01/2011 12:15

Buy a mirror from the pound shop??

nickelbabyjesus · 10/01/2011 12:16

you need to buy another mirror - we have one ion our hallway, where I do my hair in the morning.
I would plug in the hairdryer in the socket near it.

you really should have more than one mirror!

YABU.

StormInaCCup · 10/01/2011 12:17

Given the new info, yes YABU

schroeder · 10/01/2011 12:18

YABU
DH gets up about 20 minutes before me and it's bad enough him shuffling about putting his clothes on, if he started having a shave or something noisy I would probably kill him.

Folicacid · 10/01/2011 12:20

YABU, dry and straighten hair in the dining room.

I dry my hair downstairs and get dressed in spare room. It's just kinder.

If I was you DH I would be fuming.

TattyDevine · 10/01/2011 12:20

Whilst I still think its possible to set up an alternative "drying station" somewhere else in the house, (and yes, it might mean erecting a mirror and finding a nice pretty box to put the stuff in when you've finished with it), it sounds like he sleeps in pretty late. There is nothing wrong with that per se, though I can see how having to creep around at what is a pretty civilised time of morning is a bit limiting. After all, 8-8:20 is the kind of time most people would have left for the school run, work, etc.

Is he some kind of saint who does all the night feeds or goes and does voluntary work in a soup kitchen till 2am or something? If not, YANB that U. If it was 6:30am then I'd think you were.

Having said that I've always been of the view that "we may as well not both be awake if we dont have to" so we share lie ins, let the other sleep, etc etc where possible and if it were me, no matter what the time, I would have found somewhere else somehow.

Its a shame anyone has to be awake who doesn't have to, particularly because of hair.

TattyDevine · 10/01/2011 12:22

Unhygenic to do it in the kitchen? Seriously? Do you wear a hairnet at all times in the kitchen? Got a bin? Confused

The time's irrelevant to me, I'd get up at 9 if I could.

If DH was able to, I wouldn't hold it against him.

Mumwithadragontattoo · 10/01/2011 12:31

I'm going to go against the grain and say YANBU. After 8am on a week day nobody can reasonably expect not to be woken up (unless they're doing shift work). I think it would be different if it was earlier (before 7am v unreasonable; 7-8am less so) and you'd have to think of a way around it but after 8am don't worry about it.

glitzy · 10/01/2011 12:31

ok ok..IABU... ill move my "hair care" to the dining room. (my DH will be happy when I tell him!)

We dont have any mirrors downstairs as DH doesnt like it :) and i have GHDs ... but very unruly hair!

In fairness, he is often up till 2am and later sometimes, hence the "lie ins".

scarletbegonia · 10/01/2011 12:35

I was going to say that you are being unreasonable but in the light of your last post I'm going to hold fire - is he working till 2am or just watching TV? If the latter then I think he should go to bed earlier and get up nearer 8. I think its a bit odd for an adult to get up so late if they're not shift workers or similar.

tabulahrasa · 10/01/2011 12:40

I do mine in the kitchen if I have to be out before my DP is up and then go to check it in the mirror - I could put a mirror in the kitchen, but I've found that I don't really need one, you can feel if you've missed a bit, lol

Takeresponsibility · 10/01/2011 12:44

Get him to make the decision.

"Darling I hate disturbing you when I do my hair in the morning, I'd love to do it downstairs but there is no mirror. Would you put one up for me so I don't have to wake you?"

BurningBuntingFlipFlop · 10/01/2011 12:45

YANBU

If it was 6am fair enough. My dh gets up before me, 1/2 hour and he uses my hairdryer, i wouldn't dream of telling him to take it to another room!

If he worked nights or shifts fair enough. Why is he up til 2am? Do you have DC?

nickelbabyjesus · 10/01/2011 12:45

"We dont have any mirrors downstairs as DH doesnt like it "

so, the ultimatum is - I'll have a mirror downstairs or I'll wake you up with my hairdryer.

I'm sure he'll be amenable to mirrors downstairs then/ Grin

WimpleOfTheBallet · 10/01/2011 12:46

You don't need a hanging mirror...I have a cheapo one on a stand in the cupboard.

Folicacid · 10/01/2011 12:47

I don't see the problem with getting up at 9am or later if that is working hours and still wanting unbroken sleep?

charliesmommy · 10/01/2011 12:49

We have a A4 size mirror that is kept in a cupboard.. its not really a difficulty to go into another room if someone is asleep in the bedroom. I would be irked if someone woke me up unnecessarily.
