school does not send luch order

My daughter handed her lunch request and payment in on the correct day and time. She has a new teacher (happens to be wife of new headteacher). I get a call late on Friday informing me that the school office hadn't received the lunch order and consequently she would not be getting any lunches this week. I contacted the school on Friday and have heard nothing. She went in today with a packed lunch, she is very slight and in this weather I am much happier with her having a hot meal, she has problems with concentration otherwise, as her teacher will find out this afternoon. Should I make an issue out of this and make a formal complaint?

I dont think it needs a formal complaint, could you not have just gone into the school office and cleared this misunderstanding op this morning?

I would have sent her with no packed lunch and just spoke face to face with someone.

My daughter travels by school bus, I have attempted to contact the school, with no response. That's kind of why I ask the question as I now feel ignored!

I am under the beleif that it was the whole of her class and none will be receiving a hot lunch this week, although I do not know this for a fact.

Keep phoning until you get through to someone and get a resolution.

mutznutz · 10/01/2011 09:55

Yep just keep phoning...though if it is the whole class then clearly it's a mistake that they'll sort out.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 10/01/2011 09:58

I don't think the relationship of the teacher to the head of school is relevant. However, if the whole class are not getting a hot lunch, it will be obvious that someone has cocked up.

faverolles · 10/01/2011 09:58

Could you ring up some other patents to make sure that it is a mistake for the whole class?
Nothing worse than going in guns blazing to find out that your dd still has the lunch order in her book bag (not that I'd ever do that )

faverolles · 10/01/2011 09:58

For patents please read parents.

I do know she did hand her request in, I don't want to go in shouting and being aggressive over this, I just think they could have done something last week, particularly if a whole class has been missed. The lunches are done through a contracting service.

Hmm Do they ring everyone who hasn't put in a lunch order, or just those who normally do and missed this week? If the latter why did they not contact you to see what was happening rather than to tell you no lunch was forthcoming?

Also - have they received/kept the payment?

tjacksonpfc · 10/01/2011 11:12

This is the reason im glad our school have shut the kitchen.

It now means everyone has to take a paked lunch in so none of the problems that goes with school meals.

pinkichiban · 10/01/2011 11:14

We don't always have school lunch, but the order was sent in correctly. It didn't make it from class-room to office and therefore missed the send out. The cheque has been returned.

I guess what I need to find out is was the whole class missed, or if we just slipped through the net. I do appreciate everyone is human (even teachers!),but if the whole class got missed, that should have been noticed and somehow flagged-up in time to do something.

I shall phone later to check whether today's lunch request has made it in.
