I think my boss is actually....

I texted my boss this afternoon to give her a heads up that I will be calling in sick tomorrow as I have been diagnosed with gastroenteritis this morning. Explosive shits, projectile vomit and now dry heaving, the lot.

Four hours later I get a reply saying basically she wants me in as she is sick and she wants to go home when I get in! Bear in mind she had a lot of random sick hours off over Xmas and the fact that I covered her last week even though I'd started feeling ropey by then. I sent her a reply saying that unless the diarrhea stopped, I wouldn't be going out anywhere. She relied then saying she will need a doc's note?! WTF?! Oh and she threatened me with a phonecall to my area manager ( common practice for her when she can't get her own way) I am so annoyed. On top of feeling like death I am now feeling shit about work.

Have posted about her conduct before, BTW...

to prevent spread D&V norovirus

sanitise all hard surfaces eg toilet seat, handles.normal detergent and hot water

dont share towels or flannel

use liquid soap.not bar soap

Don't prepare or serve food for others.until you recover

Regularly clean the toilets that you use. Wipe the flush handle, toilet seat, bathroom taps, surfaces and door handles with hot water and detergent at least once a day. Keep a cloth specifically only for cleaning the toilet (or use a disposable one each time).

Stay off work until until at least 48 hours after the last episode of diarrhoea or vomiting eg when no more loose stools

ring your area manager and tell her you are being bullied whilst poorly - explain reasons. let them know that you can't afford a gp note but if they want one before you would normally officially need to present one then they can pay the 30 pounds.

scottishmummy · 06/01/2011 23:18

yes in fact call area manager before she does

CupcakesHay · 06/01/2011 23:26

Yes - good plaqn - def call area manager and don't even consider speaking to yor normal manager again - you've given the manager a chance!

Bloody bullies!

tallwivglasses · 06/01/2011 23:31

I feel guilty for laughing so much on a thread about DV Blush

Get well soon, bupcakes.

Oh, and your boss is an arse.

ThisIsANiceCage · 06/01/2011 23:34

Not harsh, SEAstra, just... peculiar.

I'm fascinated now: what do you do for a living, that you can work from your bed without having planned and brought anything home? I worked in a profession eminently suited to working from home - but I still had to have the physical papers with me, and there was no facility for remote log-in to my employers even if I'd had my own computer then. And I still needed to be sat at a desk - too many separate files and little bits of stationery vanishing into the bed cover folds even without getting up for the loo.

I'd really like the benefit of your experience: I could obviously learn a lot from you. Hmm

scottishmummy · 06/01/2011 23:47

in fairness norovirus/dv is physically draining disturbs sleep, restlessness.isnt always able to be alert awake and in bed working on laptop

ThisIsANiceCage · 06/01/2011 23:52

Oh yes, all that's before you add in the "being ill" bit!

But SEAstra would clearly be able to work even with D&V, so I wonder what she does. Surely even, ahem, bed-based careers would be problematic...

if it was me i would go into work and projectile vomit all over her desk and say - "see told you i wasn't well. I know its not a doctors note but will that do?"

then i'd call a cab at the company's expense, go home and bury myself in my duvet till i felt better. oh and turn my phone off too!!

giraffesCantDirtyDance · 07/01/2011 01:15

Don't go in. But maybe prepare a sample for "proof"?!

A nice Tupperware full should do it.

bupcakesandcunting · 07/01/2011 09:16

Well, I've set my alarm to call in and the silly moo isn't answering Angry

You can keep your texts to prove you notified her early. Is there noone else you can notify, or is the shop reliant lon you and her opening it?

And pish to not being able to use internet whilst ill with D+V. I spent 4 days in hospital over christmas extremely ill with swine flu and severely dehydrated and I still internetted whilst hooked up to IV drip. Well as much as I could, mumsnet and pretty much every site I use apart from facebook and BBC news was blocked on stupid bedside internet doodah.

bupcakesandcunting · 07/01/2011 09:37

My mum is here today, she slept over last night so that she could take DS to pre-school for me and collect him and be here until DH gets home at 2 :( Am desperately trying to isolate myself as the last time DS had d&v he was really sick.

She still isn't answering and I just want to sleep.

I know but I don't feel well enough to phone HR and have a salient conversation with them today. I feel I would just rant and not get my point across very well. Plus I can't remember the number so I'd have to ring her to get it Grin

LilRedWG · 07/01/2011 09:43

Agree with Altkinmum. Can Area Manager or HR and say that you are tying to call in sick but can't get through, so thought you should let them know in case there is a problem. Also let them know what happened when you spoke with her yesterday.

Then - snuggle down and get better.

LilRedWG · 07/01/2011 09:43

Or get your Mum to call. :)
