New Neighbours

I probably am being unreasonable, and maybe I just need to vent.

We've had new neighbours move in next door (Semi detatched - thin walls) about a month ago.

At least twice a week (mid week not weekends)he will start doing some internal building work after 9pm at night, drilling or hammering.

He has 3 kids (aged between 5 and 12) and they don't seem to go to bed before 10pm, and there's always loud screaming and shouting in the hours before bed time.

I've not met him, but my OH has and says he seems a nice bloke, and I don't want our first meeting to be me going over and telling him to shut up.

Our dd is 1, and is in bed by 8, and quite often the noise will wake her up, and she's normally a fantastic sleeper.

How do I deal with this I've thought of the following options

1.) Go round and confront him
2.) Stick on some noisy porn DVD and turn the volume up
3.) or put up with it and accept he needs to do things as he's just moved in

It's hard. Yes he has just moved in and needs to do jobs, but I think drilling and hammering after 9 is not really acceptable.

We had new neighbours move in the summer they let the daughters have a party whilst they went round the corner to friends. I asked for the music to be turned down as it woke my 6 year old and met with "get a life".

You just don't know how people are going to react sadly.

Don't think there's much you can do about the kids noise, but the drilling/hammering after 9pm is a bit unreasonable, maybe ask if he can do it another time. When you share walls need to be respectful of neighbours IMO

Go around with a housewarming pressie and volunteer your DH to help out with new neighbour's DIY at the weekend. No one could take offence to that (except maybe your DH ) and it'll open up the subject of DIY so that you can mention he must have a lot to do for him to be doing it so late at night....
