To think it's not remotely weird to have a shower at a next door neighbour's house in an emargency?

Our boiler packed up last week (fixed again and I am disproportioantely delighted), and as a result, we have had no heating or hot water.
So - we have been relying on little electric heaters, and having showers at our next door neighbour's house. We are friends with her next doors - I go to a gym class with her once a week, and we often have a glass of wine and a gossip round each other's houses. and supply one another with run out things, eg calpol and washing powder, (and wine ).
Anyway, I was telling a friend of mine about how the boiler has been fixed and mentioned the showers -round -neighbour's situation, and she was horrified! Said she would never ask to have a shower at someone else's house, and would say "no" if someone asked her, and think it was really weird.

Is it weird? I thought it was a perfectly normal favour to ask in the circs!

We had no shower / bathroom for a week or so and I alternated between neighbour and my sister who lives 2 streets away (not a fun walk in the morning)

Perfectly normal if they are good friends. If you didnt really know them it would be very different.

Perfectly normal. Been done round here many times. I've also taken washing round when my machine died and taken others washing in too.

Nothing weird about it at all. Definitely something weird and antisocial about the freaked out friend though. You should tell her you piss in the shower too - that would cheer her right up!

I thought it was normal too, and was surprised by my mate's reaction. I wouldn't bat an eyelid personally if a neighbour asked me - or to use washing machine etc.

Might be weird if we carried on having showers round hers now we have hot water again...

Completely normal. Well, as long as you have the neighbour's permission!

Perhaps she doesnt realise that you are friends as well as neighbours. I know that I couldnt and wouldnt ask either of our neighbours, as around here everyone keeps themselves to themselves. But I do have friends I could ask and that would be fine!

I preferred her shower - well good power shower thing...maybe we COULD permanently shower at her house on this basis?

Bogeyface - I expect you are right - we live in a small village and everyone knows everyone else. You can share things - but you DEF can't have a secret!

A friend who happens to be a neighbour (or vice versa) definitely. Random neighbour who you're on nodding terms with, no. Your friend who thinks it's weird is probably projecting because her neighbours are peculiar, and she'd be freaked to get naked in their house.

Normal! I've been known to borrow her dishwasher, if I've had a dinner party too!

In return, she texts me at work, to tell me she's borrowed my washing line from time to time!

Well, yes - I suppose it does depend on who your neighbours are, come to think of it!

Completely normal - as you know them . I wouldn't just knock on a random neighbours door and ask to use their shower.

Totally normal! This happened to us a few weeks ago and we asked two friends if we could have a shower.

I wouldn't hesitate to offer if the tables were turned, might ask them to wait 20 mins before coming round so I could do a quick wipe round/ titivate but absolutely no problems with that at all.

I DID tell my friend I knew my neighbour - she said she still thought it was weird to have a shower round a neighbour's house as would feel uncomfortable. We all locked the door and didn't march around her house naked afterwards though!

How sad that she would refuse to give such help. I've offered and received washing machine favours, and although I would aslo do as RiojaLovers suggests , I would love to help. It's horrible being without hot water/major appliances.

As you are friends rahter than just neighbours it doesn't seem that unusal to me. Maybe the friend who thought it was has a "thing" about strange bathrooms? I was once friendly with a work colleague - went to pictures together sometimes, that sort of thing. She once came round to my flat and then said she'd have to go as she needed the loo.....said she could use mine (she lived a 20 minute drive away) but she wouldn't as she just didn't like using other peoples bathrooms!

I've offered use of our shower to local friends who've had their boiler pack up (and been taken up on the offer). If our boiler wasn't working I would wait for a friend/neighbour to offer rather than ask to use their shower, though - but I wouldn't be surprised if they offered.

Actually, starfishmummy, I don't think she has ever had a shower here, and she has stayed over quite a few times. I never thought anything of it as just presumed she would rather go home and nurse hangover chill out in the morning - perhaps she just doesn't like the idea of using someone else's bathroom. Bit tight to say she would refuse if asked though?
